From the Final Fantasy 7 remake to Borderlands, many much-awaited games continue to remain conspicuous by their absence. Now, however, the next installment in the Borderlands franchise has virtually been confirmed by Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford in a Twitter conversation with Elon Musk. Not only that, the game may well include the much-talked-about flamethrower from Elon Musk’s The Boring Company if the exchange between the two is anything to go by.
It all started with Musk jokingly saying that the flamethrower was ‘sentient’. Pitchford seemingly jumped on it, and asked Musk if he can add the flamethrower to the next Borderlands game, to which, Musk replied, ‘Sure’.
It’s difficult to say whether all this is simply PR disguised as an unscripted exchange between the two, or if it really was a spontaneous, spur-of-the-moment thing, but it sure has got many fans of the Borderlands franchise talking, now that the conversation has widespread coverage in the online media.
What this does mean is that you should definitely be able to get an idea about what it would be like to wield “the safest flamethrower in the world”, if not in real life, then at least, in the virtual one. That’s because whether or not you can afford a $500 flamethrower, you will definitely be able to play a $60 game that’s expected to hit the market at some stage going forward.
In case you do want to get your hands on the real thing (provided it actually exists), you can always pre-order it on The Boring Company’s official web-store. However, don’t forget to order the optional $30 fire extinguisher as well, because, as Musk himself pointed out (jokingly or otherwise), “Obviously, a flamethrower is a super terrible idea. Definitely don’t buy one”.
