- Rogue is the 45th member of the Marvel Rivals roster.
- The mutant is a versatile Vanguard who can engage in close-range brawls and steal enemy abilities.
- Ranged Heroes and power-packed Tanks are strong counters against Rogue.
Anne Marie a.k.a. Rogue has officially joined the Marvel Rivals roster in Season 5.5. The mutant’s arrival was confirmed prior to Season 5’s release as the content update revolves around the duo of Rogue and Gambit. While her partner is an effective Strategist/Duelist hybrid who deals in card tricks, Rogue is a frontline brawler with the ultimate ace up her sleeve – skill stealing. Depending on the targeted enemy, her absorption ability alone can change the tide of matches, but of course, no Hero is perfect.
To help you get started with the X-Men member, we’ve put together a set of tips and tricks on how to use Rogue in Marvel Rivals, including an overview of her best counters.
Marvel Rivals Rogue Kit and Abilities

Rogue is a versatile Vanguard in Marvel Rivals, meaning she’s not solely a frontline tank and brings more utility to the table. She deals DPS through swift combinations of punches and kicks that involve a bit of verticality to mix things up. The mutant can also manipulate Ultimates by slowing down the gauge build-up of enemies around her and briefly stealing stats based on their role.
Playing Rogue is all about knowing when to engage enemies, mastering her bread-and-butter combos, and most importantly, learning how to counter. This is especially important as she can absorb damage through her shield to gain more power, and if you time it right, deliver decimating combos in return.
Here’s a breakdown of Rogue’s kit and abilities in Marvel Rivals:
| Ability Name | Ability Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Power Surge Punch | Left Click (Primary Attack) | Punch forward with both fists |
| Heartbreaker | Q (Ultimate) | Continuously absorb Ultimate energy from nearby enemies and steal stats based on their role |
| Fatal Attraction | Left Shift (Movement) | Dash Forward. Press again to unleash a burst of Chronovium Power from her ring, dealing continuous damage to nearby foes; after a delay, the energy retracts, pulling all enemies towards Rogue. |
| Chrono Kick Combo | E | Dash forward and launch the enemy, entering flight; activate again to knock down nearby enemies. Your next two Power Surge Punch attacks become ranged, piercing enemies and granting Bonus Health. |
| Ability Absorption | F | Dash forward to knock down your target and absorb their energy; after absorbing, replace Ability Absorption with one of their abilities or refresh Fatal Attraction. Also, absorb stats based on their role. |
| Defensive Stance | Right Click | Absorb nearby projectiles and reduce incoming damage; absorbed damage powers up your next Southern Brawl. |
| Southern Brawl | Left Click (While in Defensive Stance) | Dash forward and slam enemies in front, dealing area damage. |
| Hearts As One | Passive (Team-Up) | Gambit shares kinetic energy with Magneto and Rogue. Magneto’s Iron Volley is replaced by the Ace Greatsword, which detonates upon striking enemies. When Rogue activates the ability, each of her attacks causes a kinetic explosion that has splash damage. |
Best Method to Play Rogue in Marvel Rivals
While her skill-stealing abilities will undoubtedly gather everyone’s attention, Rogue’s strength lies in her counter-attacking prowess. This is rooted in her shield, which is pretty weak for a tank, but it does power up your left click. The resulting punch doubles as a dash and can help you close the distance on enemies. Follow this up with the Chrono Kick Combo to launch an opponent in the air, where you can deliver another melee attack. Close this combo out by pressing E once again to knock them down, after which we recommend triggering Ability Absorption.
With that said, you can alternatively remain in the brief flight mode and deliver two-ranged kicks to soften up targets. This should be your approach if you’re dealing with multiple enemies, as diving in these situations can be extremely costly.
Another essential element of her kit is the Fatal Attraction dash, which has a wonderful bit of utility. On triggering, Rogue will charge forward, covering a distance of around 10 meters. If you press the button again, she will unleash a burst of Chronovium that pulls opponents in her direction while doing constant damage. This is great for crowd control since it lets you disrupt the enemy’s positioning. However, the dash doesn’t cover a lot of ground by itself, meaning it’s not the best option to get out of harm’s way.
If you’re looking to cover maximum distance, use the dash and then combine it with a punch. In total, you’ll traverse about 15 meters in a given direction, which is essentially the best the Vanguard can manage.
Moving on to her signature skill-stealing, the ability lets you borrow a rival’s power for a brief period, such as Hulk’s Gamma Burst, Strange’s shield, Hela’s stun orb, and many others. For the best results, you’ll need to unleash absorption on the correct enemy because you aren’t just stealing their skills, but also siphoning their stats. As a general rule, here are the stats bonuses you’ll receive for siphoning each Hero role:
- Vanguard: Max Health Increase
- Duelist: Increased Damage Output
- Strategist: Improved Healing/Regen
While it can be tricky to target specific roles during the heat of battle, you’ll need to keep these baseline buffs in mind and pick the correct opponent for the game state. For instance, if you’re frontlining against a group of enemies, use your Ability Absorption on a Tank to improve survivability. If you’re separated from your team’s Support, target Strategists to help you self-sustain. And finally, if you’re looking to get some picks, siphon a Duelist to get some DPS boosts.
Her Ultimate, Heartbreaker, is an obvious counter-Ultimate as it activates an AoE that continuously deteriorates the enemy’s gauge while also siphoning stats. It’s best used while your team is trying to claim the objective, as it instantly denies your opponents the chance to pull off their game-changing Ults. No matter the situation, you should always aim to combine it with Fatal Attraction, since the dash will pull all your rivals in proximity, allowing the AoE to have maximum effect. If done right, you’ll be able to delete squads thanks to all the stat gains.
Best Rogue Counter Picks in Marvel Rivals
For all of Rogue’s versatility as a Vanguard, she is extremely susceptible to being crowd-controlled. Her kit is not high on mobility, with the sole dash covering relatively modest ground while also having a lengthy countdown. As such, there are some strong counters for the Marvel Rivals character that you’ll need to keep an eye out for:
| Character | Counter |
|---|---|
| Iron Man | Flight-based Heroes are always excellent counters to melee brawlers. It’s a similar case with Iron Man and Rogue, as the Duelist can pepper her up from range. |
| Wolverine | Wolverine is arguably the most devastating brawler in the game, and given Rogue’s low durability and weak shield, she will not be able to withstand a close-range encounter. |
| Cloak and Dagger | Cloak and Dagger can strategically vanish allies and directly counter Rogue’s Ultimate. |
| Peni Parker | Peni’s Arachno-Mines can deny Rogue the opportunity to dive, severely limiting her attacking capabilities |
| Human Torch | Just like Iron Man, Human Torch can pepper Rogue from afar, and there’s almost nothing she can do about it. |
