Lyney Genshin Impact: Best Builds, Weapons, Artifacts & More

Genshin Impact recently introduced us to a new and upcoming five-star character Lyney who hails from the Nation of Justice, Fontaine, the forthcoming new region in Genshin Impact 4.0. Lyney and his sibling Lynette run a popular magic show in the court of Fontaine for the attendees where both the siblings perform tricks to impress the audience. Lyney is a DPS character, a Pyro vision holder, and a Bow user who’s got an interesting kit for a new character. Hence, in this Lyney guide, let’s look at the best builds, weapons, and artifacts for him.

Lyney Guide: Talents and Passives

Lyney Talents

Like other limited five-star characters, Lyney’s play style looks unique. His normal attack unleashes a series of four consecutive attacks with a bow. The charged attack has two charge levels — the first charge deals Pyro damage and the second charged shot fires a Prop arrow, dealing increased damage and summoning a “Grin-Malkin Hat.” He holds the bow horizontally like Venti and not vertically like Ganyu.

“Grin-Malkin Hat” taunts nearby enemies every five seconds and its HP scales off Lyney’s max HP. When destroyed, it does pyro damage to an opponent called “Pyrotechnic Strike.” When firing the Prop arrow, if Lyney has over 60% of his max HP, he consumes a portion to obtain one Prop Surplus stack (max 5 stacks). 60% is also the lowest HP Lyney can drop to using his Prop arrows. The Prop arrow also does “Arkhe: Pneuma,” which causes a Spiritbreath Thorn to descend upon the arrow’s hit location, dealing Pyro damage.

Lyney Horizontal bow

As for Lyney’s elemental skill, it uses the stacked-up Prop surplus to do extra damage. The amount of AoE damage depends on the number of Prop surpluses stacked, which, if it’s five, does more damage. You get the gist. Although, besides dealing AoE Pyro damage, he also regains his lost HP due to stacking up Props. The Grin-Malkin Hat on the field will explode due to his elemental skill, dealing AoE Pyro damage similar in numbers to a Pyrotechnic Strike.

Lyney’s elemental burst transforms him into a Grin-Malkin Cat, which is different from Grin-Malkin Hat. In this form, he can move around faster, and when he gets closer to the enemies, a shower of flames will hit them dealing Pyro damage to them. Once the form, or rather, show ends he does Pyro AoE damage and summons a Grin-Malkin Hat, and stacks up one Prop Surplus stack.

Lyney Passives

His first passive “Perilous Performance” will restore 3 energy and increase Lyney’s damage by 80% of his attack when the Grin-Malkin he summons by the Prop arrow hits the enemies.

As for his second passive “Conclusive Ovation,” when the enemy is affected by Pyro, Lyney’s base attack is increased by 60% and all Pyro members in the team other than Lyney will receive a 20% Bonus. This way, Lyney can gain a total of 100% increased attack damage to opponents affected by Pyro. His last passive “Trivial Observations” displays the location of nearby resources of Fontaine on the mini-map.

Lyney Guide: Talent Level Up and Ascension Materials

To ascend Lyney and level up his talents, you’d need a few Fontaine-exclusive materials called Rainbow Rose and both Fontaine and Sumeru’s boss materials called Emperor’s Resolution and Primordial Grenbloom obtained by defeating the Emperor of File and Iron in Fontaine and Warden of Oasis Prime in Sumeru. The latter can be unlocked by completing Nahida’s story quest.

Lyney Talent Level Up Materials

As for the talent priority, you should prioritize Lyney’s elemental burst and then proceed with leveling up his charged attack, and then elemental skill. This way, you can ensure you’re getting the most out of his Elemental Burst which buffs Lyney’s and the team’s damage if there’s another Pyro in the team.

Best Builds for Lyney in Genshin Impact

Marechaussee Hunter seems to be the best Artifact set for an excellent Lyney build since it has the characteristics that are tailor-made for him. For starters, 2Pc Marechaussee Hunter increases Normal and Charged attack damage by 15% and the 4Pc set increases Crit Rate by 12% for 5 seconds (max 3 stacks). when the HP increases or decreases. This is great for Lyney since most of his damage comes from his charged attacks and his elemental skill and burst consume and restore his HP, respectively.

And if you lack good Marechaussee Hunter artifacts, your second option could be the Lavawalker artifacts which at 2Pc decreases the opponent’s Pyro resistance by 40% and at 4Pc increases the Pyro damage by 35%. If you lack good Lavawalker artifacts but can use Crimson Witch of Flames artifacts instead, give the same 2Pc set and a 2Pc Marechaussee Hunter. Or you could go all Wanderer’s Troupe as its 4Pc increases charged attack damage by 35%. All in all, you’ve got four options.

  • 4-Piece Marechaussee Hunter
  • 4-Piece Lavawalker
  • 2-Piece Marechaussee Hunter + 2-Piece Crimson Witch of Flames
  • 4-Piece Wanderer’s Troupe

In the end, make sure your Lyney’s stats align with the stats given below to get the most out of him. The general consensus is stacking up Crit values on him to make him a good DPS, but your build may hugely vary based on the artifacts you choose to equip on him.

Lyney Best Weapons in Genshin Impact

Since Crit values play a major role in Lyney’s overall damage output; hence, it’s important you equip him with weapons that increase the same. The good news is, there are tons of weapons in the game that increase a character’s damage output while increasing the crit values. Here are all the weapons that can help you bring out the most of Lyney.

1. The First Great Magic: Best Weapon for Lyney

The First Great Magic is Lyney’s signature weapon and as you’d expect from the same, it’s tailor-made for him. It’s a five-star bow with a maximum of 66.1% Crit damage. As for its passives, it increases attack by 12%, and every party member with the same Elemental Type as the wielder (including the wielder themselves) gains 1 Gimmick stack.

For every party member with a different Elemental Type from the wielder, gain 1 Theatrics stack. When the wielder has 1/2/3 or more Gimmick stacks, ATK will be increased by 8%/16%/40%. When the wielder has 1/2/3 or more Theatrics stacks, Movement SPD will be increased by 4%/7%/10%.

2. Aqua Simulacra

Aqua Simulacra almost feels like Lyney’s second signature weapon in disguise. For starters, it gives a character a massive crit damage boost thanks to its 88.2% crit damage value at level 90. For those unaware, Aqua Simulacra is Yelan’s signature weapon. As for its passives, it increases the wielder’s HP by 16% while giving them a damage boost of 20% on-field and off-field, which makes it one of the best weapons for Lyney.

3. Blackcliff Warbow

Blackcliff Warbow in the Blackcliff series of weapons can be obtained — Its sub-stat scales off Crit damage and the passive suits Lyney as it increases attack percentage by 12% for 30 seconds (3 stacks max). It also looks pretty good on Lyney thanks to him being Pyro and goes very well with his outfit. The best part is, it’s technically a free weapon.

Honorable mentions:

  • Skyward Harp
  • Slingshot
  • Polar Star
  • Thundering Pulse
  • Prototype Crescent
