Lenovo has just announced its new mid-range smartphone in the ‘Z series’ in China called Z5s. As you can see, the phone comes in a variety of eye-catchy colors, and it is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 710 SoC. Unlike the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT, this one is a mid-ranger with fairly decent specs and an attractive price tag.

With a triple-camera setup and a display with a teardrop notch, the Lenovo Z5s looks like an interesting offering, so let’s check it out –

The Lenovo Z5s a 6.39-inch Full HD+ 19.5:9 aspect ratio display with 92.6% screen-to-body ratio. Unlike the Z5 Pro GT variant, the Z5s sports a notch on the front that houses the front-facing camera and the earpiece.

As I mentioned earlier, the phone is powered by Snapdragon 710 with up to 6GB of RAM and 256GB storage. As for the optics, the Lenovo Z5s packs a triple camera setup at the back with a 16MP primary camera, an 8MP secondary telephoto lens for 2x zoom and a 5-megapixel camera for capturing depth information in portrait shots. There’s also a 16MP selfie shooter.

The phone is kept powered by a 3,300mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging. It runs on the ZUI10.0 based on Android 9 Pie. The phone’s internals are encased in glass and metal enclosure, and back comes with P2i splash-resistant coating to protect it from accidental spills.

Pricing & Availability

The base variant of the Lenovo Z5s with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage is priced at 1398 yuan. You can also buy a variant with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage for 1598 yuan, or go all in and get the top-end variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage for 1,898 yuan. The phone will be available in China starting December 24.

Honestly, with its pricing, the Lenovo Z5s easily undercuts the likes of Nokia 8.1 and Oppo’s R17 Pro. Both of those devices are also powered by Snapdragon 710 SoC, however, they’ll cost you significantly more, even in China. The Oppo R17 Pro is grossly overpriced, and the Nokia 8.1 is, well plagued by Nokia’s odd-ball pricing.

I highly doubt if Lenovo will bring the Z5s to India, but it would definitely help pick up the company’s flagging fortunes in the market. You can learn more about the phone here.
