Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 20 Hints at a Grim Outcome For Maru at Tsurugi’s Hands

The majority of JJK fans feel as if the spin-off manga has just begun, but it’s already in its final stages as the author plans to end the series in three volumes. With his innate Cursed Technique, Chaos and Order, Maru caught Tsurugi offguard, and the latter was overwhelmed by the Simurian in their first battle. When Tsurugi was at death’s door, he used his grandfather Yuta’s ring and unleashed Rika, the Queen of Curses. Unexpectedly, Tsurugi merged with Rika’s body and unlocked a new hybrid form that we haven’t seen before, even with Yuta. With a near infinite pool of energy and immense strength, Tsurugi overpowered Maru and changed the course of battle.

The author slightly shifted our attention towards Dabura vs. Mahoraga and Itadori Yuji’s return in the new chapter of JJK: Modulo at first, but returns to the main confrontation between Tsurugi and Maru. If you have seen Yuta’s powers enabled by Rika in JJK, he was able to summon weapons using the Queen of Curses. In the very same way, Tsurugi uses Rika to summon the Split Soul Katana from the shadows in JJK Modulo Chapter 20. In case you don’t remember, Toji Fushiguro and Maki Zenin (after her awakening) previously wielded this katana in the Jujutsu Kaisen series.

When Maru is affected by Yuji’s extermination of curses, Tsurugi immediately takes advantage of this opening and strikes Maru with his new sword. However, Maru gets lucky as it is a shallow cut. Once again, Tsurugi does the unexpected by making a binding vow with Rika. This time, he lets her go away with his last embers of cursed energy in exchange for lightning-fast movement. Thus, Rika’s mask fell from Tsurugi’s face as he undoes the transformation to get a new movement-based power-up.

At the end, Tsurugi quickly moves towards Maru as if he is teleporting and catches the Simurian off guard. Then, Tsurugi slays his friend Maru without any hesitation, as hinted by the Simurian’s blood splattering over a traffic signboard. Moreover, this is a bloody slash from the Split Soul Katana, known for bypassing all defenses and cutting the target’s soul. So, Maru’s situation remains hopeless at the moment.

This does seem like the end of the road for Maru, as Tsurugi gave his all to clear the path to save his sister, who is currently fighting against Dabura. Nevertheless, Gege can always introduce a twist to let Maru live somehow. But for now, he is on the brink of his death based on how things stand at the moment.

Everything seemed perfect for the Modulo trio at first, but now Tsurugi had to kill his new friend to save his sister. That said, do you think Maru will survive this life-ending attack from Split Soul Katana? Let us know in the comments below.
