Emotes and Gestures have been a part of FromSoftware games ever since the first Dark Souls. So, seeing them return for their first stab at a multiplayer game should come as no surprise. Elden Ring Nightreign is filled with these charming animations, almost all of which have been carried over from the 2022 GOTY winner of the same name. Covering a variety of emotions, these Gestures are a great way to communicate with your fellow Nightfarers, but the game is typically vague about how you can access them. On that note, here’s how to Emote in Elden Ring Nightreign.
How to Use Emotes and Gestures in Elden Ring Nightreign
To use an emote in Nightreign, hit the pause button and then press ‘1’ on keyboard, the Triangle button on PlayStation, or the Y button on Xbox. This will bring up the gestures menu, so simply select the emote you want to execute and hit ‘left click’ on your mouse, the cross button on PlayStation, or the A button on Xbox.

The gestures menu features a minimum of 16 emotes, which makes navigating through them every time unnecessarily laborious. To streamline the process, you can place your favorite gestures at the very beginning of the list by selecting them and then pressing ‘2’ on the keyboard, the Square button on PlayStation, or the X button on Xbox.
Needless to say, using an emote will lock you in the animation, and some of them cannot be canceled. So, make sure to pick the right time before using a gesture.
