How to Parry in Black Myth Wukong

The parry mechanic in a game always elevates its combat to the next level if done right. A great example of this statement is Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Black Myth: Wukong has drawn a lot of inspiration from the popular FromSoftware game, and it offers the parrying mechanic, albeit in a different manner. Thus, if you are thinking about how to parry in Black Myth Wukong, start mastering parrying as Wukong with our dedicated parrying guide.

Unlike parrying in other ARPG games such as Sekiro, Lies of P, etc, the Parry mechanic works in a contrasting way in Black Myth Wukong. Therefore, discover all the ways you can utilize the parry below.

1. Using the Rock Solid Parrying Spell

You must be aware of the “Rock Solid” – an altercation spell already as you must have used it at least once in the epic opening sequence of Wukong battling against the Celestial Gods. Now, this spell is used to perform parrying and you are bestowed with it by a Headless Musician after you defeat the Tiger Vanguard boss in Chapter 2.

By casting the Rock Solid spell, the destined one will turn into a rock for some time. So how can we use it for parrying you ask? You just have to project the Rock Solid spell at the right time in the same way you press the parry button right before an enemy’s melee attack arrives. Thus, doing so will result in a successful parry and stagger the enemy right away.

Do keep in mind that this spell has a cooldown period of 15 seconds. Thus, you can’t parry all the attacks coming your way like in other games. Be alert and use this spell to parry the attacks you struggle to dodge. This is the perfect way to utilize this altercation spell and can reward you greatly in battles.

2. Parry with Your Staff

The one thing you should know is that learning how to parry in Black Myth Wukong is restricted to the method above. However, that hasn’t stopped gamers from asking if the Destined One can use its staff to parry in the game. Unfortunately, the answer is no.

This is because the game doesn’t have a built-in conventional parry system to deflect everything using your staff. However, technically, there are a few ways to get close to parrying with your staff in Black Myth Wukong.

  • First, you need to unlock a skill called “Mobile Spin” under the Martial Arts skills tree. This allows you to spin the destined one’s staff stylishly to deflect and block all the projectiles thrown at you. But this skill comes in handy only against projectiles and isn’t your typical parry skill.

Alternatively, there are several other ways to avoid damage, such as when you perform a heavy attack in a smash stance or when you transform into some spirit forms and block the attacks by shielding. However, if you look at it technically, these moves don’t count as parrying but more like blocking.

But it is worth mentioning to let fellow players know to negate damage in different ways. That said, do you like the special parry mechanic in Black Myth: Wukong? Let us know in the comments below.
