How to Get and Use Variable Dice in Honkai Star Rail 3.0

In Short
  • Variable Dice in HSR 3.0 lets you reroll sub-stat enhancement distributions on level 15 Relics
  • It can be crafted from self-modelling resin, obtained from events or Nameless Honor.
  • Variable dice cannot change the type of existing sub-stats, only their enhancement value.

Honkai: Star Rail 3.0 brings a new feature that many players have been waiting for – Variable Dice. Anyone who’s spent time building characters knows the pain of getting almost perfect Relic stats, only to have the enhancements go into the wrong substats.

With Variable Dice, you now have a chance to fix those unlucky enhancement rolls and potentially turn good Relics into great ones. Let’s dive into how to get Variable Dice in HSR 3.0 and use them.

What Is Variable Dice?

Variable Dice is a 5-star item introduced in HSR 3.0 that gives players more control over their Relic stats. If you level up a Relic to 15 and feel frustrated when all the enhancements go into DEF instead of CRIT DMG%, Variable Dice is the solution. It lets you redistribute how those sub-stat enhancements were spread out among the existing sub-stats.

However, there’s one important thing to understand: Variable Dice can’t change which sub-stats are on your Relic. It only changes how the enhancement rolls were distributed between the stats you already have. The only exception is for new stats that appear at level 15 – those can be rerolled into a different stat entirely.

How to Get Variable Dice in HSR 3.0?

There are two main ways to get Variable Dice in Honkai Star Rail:

  1. Battle Pass (Nameless Honor): You can get one Variable Dice through the premium tier of the Battle Pass (Nameless Glory). This means you’ll need to purchase the upgraded Battle Pass to obtain this reward in every version.

2. Crafting: If you want more Variable Dice, you can craft them using the Omni-Synthesizer. The recipe requires 3 Self-Modeling Resin for each Variable Dice. There’s no limit to how many you can craft this way, but you’ll need to gather enough Self-Modeling Resin first, which is a very limited resource.

How to Use Variable Dice?

Using Variable Dice is straightforward but requires some strategy:

  • First, your Relic must be level 15.
  • When you use a Variable Dice, it will randomly redistribute all the enhancement rolls that happened while leveling up your Relic.
  • After using it, you’ll see a preview of the new stat distribution. You can choose whether to keep the new rolls or stick with the original ones.
  • Important: The Variable Die is consumed either way, even if you decide to keep the original stats. Make sure you’re ready to potentially use multiple dice if you’re hunting for perfect stats.

For example, let’s say your Relic started with CRIT Rate%, CRIT DMG%, ATK%, and Speed. While leveling it to 15, most rolls went into ATK%. Using a Variable Die gives you a chance to redistribute those rolls, potentially getting more improvements to CRIT stats instead.

Remember, this system isn’t about getting perfect stats easily – it’s about having another chance at improving Relics that are already good but could be better. Use your Variable Dice wisely, and they can help you build stronger characters in the long run.
