Will GTA 6 Release on Nintendo Switch 2? Answered

GTA 6 is the definition of a bona fide system seller, and all you need to do is look at the sales figures of its predecessor to see why. All signs are pointing towards Rockstar’s upcoming title leapfrogging that astonishing figure. However, it’ll need to release on platforms beyond just the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S to reach that mark, leading to questions surrounding a potential release on Nintendo Switch 2. So, will GTA 6 release on Nintendo Switch 2? Let’s break it down.

Editor’s Note: Last updated on October 8, 2026, to include the latest details about the GTA 6 Nintendo Switch 2 port.

Is GTA 6 Coming to Nintendo Switch 2?

No, GTA 6 is not coming to Nintendo Switch 2. Rockstar has confirmed that PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S will be the only platforms on which the game will be available. The devs have not shared any information about a GTA 6 PC release, let alone the Nintendo Switch 2.

It’s worth noting that GTA games have historically skipped Nintendo platforms across almost every generation. The only exceptions were the remastered GTA Trilogy and GTA Chinatown Wars. An unofficial GTA 5 Switch port was also taken down by Take-Two.

The former brought updated versions of older GTA games, including GTA 3, GTA Vice City, and GTA San Andreas, to the Switch, while the latter was designed with handhelds in mind and arrived on the Nintendo DS.

Players have long assumed that the series’ absence has to do with the family-friendly demographic Nintendo consoles typically target. Needless to say, GTA is anything but PG. However, the more likely reason is the limited hardware capabilities of Nintendo consoles.

Will a GTA 6 Nintendo Switch 2 Port Come Out in the Future?

Although Rockstar Games hasn’t yet talked about a GTA 6 Nintendo Switch 2 port, there is a chance that the new GTA game may release on Switch 2 in the future. Lately, insider Nash Weedle and several reports have claimed that a GTA 6 Nintendo Switch 2 port is in the works and will reportedly release in 2027.

The insider claimed that technical hurdles have been overcome and more Switch 2 port specialists have been recruited to work on the GTA 6 port. If that’s the case, then GTA 6 will be released on Nintendo Switch 2 next year alongside the GTA 6 PC port.

However, take these reports with a grain of salt, as nothing has been officially confirmed at the moment. Judging by the GTA 6 Extended Look, the game is going to feature an unprecedented amount of NPC density and variety in the GTA 6 Leonida map, many of whom have different builds, body types, and facial models.

In addition, GTA 6 supports advanced Ray Tracing, complex character physics, and more. So, GTA 6 is already speculated to launch with only a 30 FPS mode at the moment.

If this truly next-gen game needs to be available on Switch 2, then Rockstar needs to tone down every aspect of the visuals, like completely removing RT, reducing the resolution, and more. Only then can GTA 6 run at least at 30 FPS on Switch 2 consoles

Upscalers Are the Only Hope for GTA 6 on Nintendo Switch 2

A former Rockstar dev suggested that a GTA 6 Switch 2 port doesn’t make any sense, as there is a risk of delivering a subpar experience compared to other consoles. However, in recent times, Nintendo did the unthinkable by completely porting Cyberpunk 2077 to Nintendo Switch 2.

Thanks to a custom DLSS upscaler from NVIDIA, the Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 port was made possible. The new Switch 2 game ran well in both docked and handheld modes. So, the Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 port gives hope that a Switch 2 port for GTA 6 is still within reach.

Considering that the Switch 2 is technically a next-gen console, Rockstar might consider porting the game to the handheld in the future. So, Switch 2 owners have to play the waiting game until Rockstar officially announces GTA 6 on the Switch 2.

That wraps up everything we know about GTA 6 coming to Nintendo Switch 2. If you hope to see the highly anticipated game releases on the Switch 2, let us know in the comments below.
