The world of Grand Theft Auto VI already has fans excited to drop into Vice City once again, and now new info has emerged about the GTA 6 map size. As fans await the game’s release on November 19 to drive around Leonida and all its regions, we now know that the GTA 6 map is almost twice the size of that of GTA 5 and RDR 2.
GTA 6 Map Size Compared with GTA 5 and RDR 2
In the latest issue of Game Informer published on September 29, 2026, Rockstar’s Art Director Aaron Garbut revealed that the GTA 6 map is twice the size of GTA 5’s Los Santos map. However, he didn’t reveal the GTA 6 Leonida map size in kilometers, as the Rockstar dev did mention that this map is the biggest ever created by the studio for a video game, to “some degree.”
To put things in comparison with other Rockstar titles such as Red Dead Redemption 2, the map for that game was only slightly bigger than GTA 5’s Los Santos map. While this doesn’t reveal the exact map size for GTA 6’s Leonida, we can speculate the number using available GTA 5 and RDR 2 map sizes in kms.
GTA 5’s Los Santos map is stretched between 75 – 80 km, including the shoreline, and RDR 2’s map is between 78- 85 km. This safely puts GTA 6’s Leonida map between 160- 170 km, including the Vice City shoreline and oceans. Hence, we can confidently say that the GTA 6 map is twice as large as GTA 5’s Los Santos map.
However, Aaron Garbut also commented about the world-building in GTA 6 in the Game Informer story where he said, “This new world is different. We obsessed about every part – the rooftops, the alleys, the internals and everything in between to the point we hit a critical mass with the numbers of our interiors, and you start to feel the buildings are more real inside and out. This world is a cohesive whole with the density of content and a hand-crafted quality to every bit.”
This further hints that Rockstar wants to make Leonida feel like a connected environment where players can immerse themselves, free-roaming as well as indulging in some GTA 6 activities like Base Jumping, Jet Skiing, Scuba Diving, and so on.
