GTA 6 will apparently push Australia’s age-rating boundaries, earning an X 18+ age rating in the region. This goes beyond GTA 5’s R 18+ rating.
A new PlayStation ad for the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition in Australia features the X 18+ age rating, and it’s easy to see why, thanks to some of the leaks we’ve seen before.
First Hints of GTA 6 Age Rating Appear Online
Popular GTA account iGrandTheftAuto spotted this info and posted it on X, triggering several conversations about how far Rockstar Games will go with mature content in GTA 6. However, if you’ve kept up with GTA 6 leaks, you’ll know some of them have already hinted at just how far the developer plans to take the game.
The GTA 6 Nudist Town leak comes to mind, which showcased a bunch of NPCs partying naked and dancing with their genitals out before Jason started shooting up the place. The visuals were extremely NSFW and went beyond the typical strip club visuals you’d usually see in GTA 5, further cementing the X 18+ age rating in Australia.
Meanwhile, Rockstar North co-head Rob Nelson also talked about GTA 6’s upgraded gore system with enhanced dismemberment during one of the hands-off previews at Edinburgh, noting that the game lets you dismember bodies and rip off limbs from all body parts of an NPC.
On the game’s more explicit side, even CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 avoided an X 18+ rating in Australia, despite featuring first-person intercourse scenes with characters like Judy, Panam, and others. Australian Classification Board banned the Halloween game in Australia for less than this.
Moreover, this could be the first Australian game to carry an X 18+ rating, as the classification traditionally applies only to films. These movies have massive explicit content such as strong language, violence, and sexually explicit material. So, you can already imagine what Rockstar is cooking up with GTA 6.
