Grookey Pokemon GO Community Day (January 2026): All Bonuses, Features and More

Grookey is the Pokemon that will be featured in the first Pokemon GO community day of 2026. This grass-type, cute, monkey-like Pokemon was first introduced in the Generation 8 series of the Galar region. Grookey was first seen in the game around September 2024, and fans were asking for the same treatment that every starter Pokemon gets.

After a long wait, Grookey’s last evolution will get its very first signature move, and a shiny version of it will be released in the game. This will be a perfect chance to get your hands on this rare Pokemon. Here’s all the information you need to know about the January 2026 Grookey Pokemon GO Community Day.

Grookey Pokemon GO Community Day Date and Time

The Grookey Pokemon Go Community Day in January 2026 takes place over three hours. We have listed the start and the end times below.

• Start Date and Time: Sunday, January 18, 2026, 2 PM Local Time
• End Date and Time: Sunday, January 18, 2026, 5 PM Local Time

After three hours of the Pokemon event, you can still evolve your Grookey to get the exclusive move, but there won’t be any spawns.

Community Day Spawns and Shiny Rate

During the Pokemon GO January 2026 Community Day, there will be increased Grookey spawns in the wild. The Grookey you encounter may also have a special background. It is recommended that you stock up on Ultra and Great Balls to effortlessly catch all the spawning Pokemon without worrying about them breaking out.

Like any other Community Day, the shiny rate of Grookey will be drastically increased to 1 in 25 (4%), instead of the standard shiny rate. Players can increase their chances of getting a shiny by encountering as many Pokemon as possible. Make sure to click on every Pokemon you find.

Grookey Community Day Bonuses

During the Grookey Pokemon GO Community Day, players can utilise the following bonuses during the event:

• Increased Grookey Spawns
• 3x more Stardust for catching Pokemon
• 3-hour Incense duration (excluding Daily Adventure Incense)
• 1-hour Lures duration (excluding Golden Lure Modules)
• 2× increased Catch Candy
• 2× increased chance to receive Candy XL from catching Pokemon
• One additional Special Trade can be made (max 3 for the day)
• Trades with Friends will require 50% less Stardust compared to normal days
• From 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. local time, there is a very high chance of the featured Pokemon appearing at PokeStops with active regular Lure Modules
• Players can look out for Showcases at different PokeStops

To maximise on the bonuses, make sure that you use an Incense at the start of the event, with a Starpiece to get extra stardust gains. If you don’t have them, consider buying from the in-game store using PokeCoins. You can keep a grass-type Mega Evolution like Mega Venusaur, or Mega Sceptile in your party for extra candy bonuses.

Trade as many Pokemon as possible, including the ones you’ve saved, for a chance to get one with good stats. Don’t forget to complete your special trade by trading Shinies and Legendaries with friends.

Exclusive Move for Grookey Community Day

Players can evolve Thwackey (Grookey’s Evolution) during the event or up to four hours afterwards to get a Rillaboom that knows the following Charged Attack:

• Frenzy Plant (Grass-type Charged Attack)
  • Trainer Battles: 100 power
  • Gyms and raids: 100 power

Starting from the Community Day and continuing afterwards, Rillaboom will be able to learn the following Charged Attack:

• Drum Beating (Grass-type Charged Attack)
  • Trainer Battles: 60 power and lowers the opposing Pokémon’s Attack by one stage
  • Gyms and raids: 115 power
  • Drum Beating can be obtained by either evolving your Thwackey or by using a charged TM on Rillaboom anytime after the event.

Frenzy Plant is one of the best moves to have on your grass-type Pokemon. We recommend that you get at least four to five Rillaboom with the move, given they have a good IV.
