In the official PlayStation blog, Andrew Goldfarb, Senior Communications Manager of Sucker Punch Productions has shared some great insight about the sequel game. It’s been confirmed that the upcoming sequel takes place over 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima.

For those who don’t remember, the first game’s story was set in 1274 on the Japanese islands of Tsushima and Iki. Thus, three centuries later, Atsu, the new hero, embarks on her vengeful expedition in 1603. We will explore Ezo at the beginning of the Edo period, when this new region was outside Feudal Japan’s jurisdiction.

The developers have further mentioned, “It’s a far cry from the organized samurai clans who lived in Tsushima, and it’s the setting for an original story we can’t wait to tell.”

The backdrop of the new Ghost tale is confirmed to take place in the regions around Mount Yotei, located in the center of Ezo (now known as Hokkaido in modern Japan). Now you can understand where the new game’s title stems from. Furthermore, the devs remarked on the setting of the story:

This new region is filled with sprawling grasslands, snowy tundras, and unexpected dangers.

We can’t wait to step into the upgraded and alluring localities of Feudal Japan, similar to what we experienced in Ghost of Tsushima back then. The devs have also promised to share more updates about Atsu’s daring journey in the future. So, are you excited for Ghost of Yotei? Let us know in the comments below!
