Frieren: Who Is the Hero of the South? Answered

Anime fans who haven’t watched Frieren think of it as a slice-of-life anime, but it is jam-packed with many exhilarating action sequences. Frieren, who has been around for over a thousand years, isn’t the only powerful character in the series, as there are even more characters stronger than her. One of the characters who surpasses Frieren in terms of strength is The Hero of the South. Himmel may have been the only hero we knew at the beginning, but the Hero of the South is introduced later in the story. So, who is this Hero of the South in Frieren? Who Is the Hero of the South in Frieren?

A hero emerged from the south, becoming a beacon of hope for people in their war against the demons. He was so powerful that he was considered the “Humanity’s Strongest Hero.” Since his name hasn’t been revealed until now, everyone remembered him as the ‘Hero of the South.’ This hero exterminated the majority of the Demon King’s army, including his elite generals, until his death.

Even before meeting him, Eisen mentioned that a great hero from the south was brought down by the Seven Sages of Destruction and the Greater Demons in the earliest chapters of Frieren. This got us curious about who the hero is, and atlast we met him in the Continued Northern Travels arc.

Did Frieren Meet the Hero of the South?

The strongest hero of humanity once crossed paths with Frieren in the past. Their meeting was confirmed when Frieren was cleaning his statue and remembered their encounter in the Central Lands. Similar to Himmel, the Hero of the South, requested Frieren to join him in his quest to defeat the Demon King and his forces.

However, Frieren eventually rejected his invitation, but the Hero of the South was aware of the future where Frieren, along with the Hero Party, would go on to defeat the Demon King. So, how did the Hero of the South certainly know about this outcome in the future? It has to do with his powers, and even he spilled his secret truth about his incredible powers to Frieren during their meeting.

How Powerful Is Hero of the South?

You know that the Hero of the South was indeed the strongest hero humanity has ever seen when Frieren remarked that the hero thoroughly deserved his title. He became the most powerful human being blessed with future-sight magic. The Hero of the South could look into the future even beyond his own life, and he was capable of predicting it right on the money, as Serie mentioned once.

In addition to the ability to see the future, the Hero of the South’s swordsmanship was excellent. He had two longswords with him and wielded them in battles in tandem with his future-sight ability to vanquish his foes. It is sufficient to say that humanity gained the upper hand in battle against the demon as the Hero of the South singlehandedly wiped out the Demon King’s forces.

When Demon King realised the Hero of the South’s unreal power, he sent his right-hand man, Schlacht, and his elite unit, the Seven Sages of Destruction, to eliminate the hero. Keep in mind that these are the strongest demons we have ever seen in the Frieren series.

The Hero of the South knew his life would end in this fated clash against the powerful demons. Yet, he never gave up hope, and even in a 1 vs 8 battle, the Hero of the South successfully slew Schlact and three of the seven sages before he laid his sword down for the last time. That’s how powerful the Hero of the South was, and now you can understand why people called him humanity’s strongest hero.

The Hero of the South is remembered to this day by all the people for his heroic actions against the Demon King in an era when the future seemed bleak.
