- The Sprite Locator marks the location of a buried Sprite Chest that players can hunt down and loot.
With the Sprite madness continuing in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3, Epic continues to add tools to help make players’ collection journey easier. Now, Epic has added the new Fortnite Sprite Locator, an Extraction Gizmo that focuses purely on discovery and removing some level of RNG from the Sprite hunt. If you want to know how you can find and use this tool in Chapter 7 Season 3, we have you covered right here.
What is the Sprite Locator in Fortnite?
The Sprite Locator is one of the Extraction Gizmos in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3, and it allows players to track down hidden Sprite Chests. Instead of trying your luck with the Sprite Chest spawns or depending on RNG to find new Sprites, you can use the Sprite Locator, which basically acts like a radar tool.
When activated, the Sprite Locator marks the precise location of a buried Sprite Chest on the Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3 map. Additionally, the Sprite Locator has a higher chance of spawning Special variants of the Sprites. This includes the Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, and Holofoil Sprites.
How to Get Sprite Locator in Fortnite
You can unlock the Sprite Locator in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3 by mastering 17 Sprites through the Sprite Mastery track. Unlike standard weapons or other items in the Fortnite loot pool, players cannot get the Sprite Locator through chests, both Sprite and standard. This works similarly to the Portable Extractor, another Gizmo that can only be unlocked through the Sprite Mastery track or the Sprite machines at Extraction Sites.
At the time of writing, there is no other way to get more Sprite Locators in the game. This means the three Sprite Locators you get from the Sprite Mastery track will be the only ones you’ll be able to use for the foreseeable future. Epic is likely to add more Sprite Locators to the Sprite Mastery track as the season goes on.
The Sprite Locators are bound to your account and not each individual Fortnite match, much like the Portable Extractor. This means that other players cannot take your Sprite Locator away from you. However, if you die after using the Sprite Locator, you will lose the buried Sprite Chest location and the Locator Gizmo as well.
How to Use Sprite Locator in Fortnite
You can use the Sprite Locator by selecting it through the Fortnite Gizmo Wheel in Chapter 7 Season 3. The Sprite Locator essentially sends out a pulse around the player and marks the buried Sprite Chests on your HUD. To use the Sprite Locator effectively, you can follow these steps:
- Open the Gizmo Wheel by holding Y/Triangle on your controller or L on your keyboard.
- Select the Sprite Locator.
- Press RT/R2 or left-click with the Sprite Locator equipped to activate it.
- Once the scan is complete, you will see a custom chest marker on your screen. This marker is for the buried Sprite Chest.
- Head to the Sprite Chest and use your pickaxe to dig it out.
- Make sure to have a look at the hologram above the buried Sprite Chest. This can tell you what type of Sprite is actually inside the Chest.
- Collect your Fortnite Sprite and extract it quickly, especially if it’s a Special variant.
Remember that the Sprite Locator is not the same as the Lucky Locator. The Lucky Locator is an Extraction Gizmo that will be added later in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3, and it will guarantee finding a Sprite that you don’t currently have.
