  • To unlock the character, players must complete the Tricephalos expedition to receive the Old Pocketwatch.
  • Deliver the Old Pocketwatch to the masked Priestess at Roundtable Hold to unlock the Duchess.

Elden Ring Nightreign features a total of eight playable character classes, but two of them, namely the Duchess and the Revenant, need to be unlocked before players can switch to them. The former caught the eye of many players thanks to the dedicated character trailer shared by Bandai Namco that showed off the Duchess’s swift attacking maneuvers and evasive excellence. The character can also be acquired pretty early into the game. So, we’ve put together a guide highlighting exactly how to unlock the Duchess in Elden Ring Nightreign.

How to Get The Duchess in Elden Ring Nightreign

To acquire the Duchess as a playable class, players must obtain the ‘Old Pocketwatch‘ item and then give it to the Priestess who stands near the Table of Lost Grace at Roundtable Hold. To get this item, you’ll need to complete the first expedition (Tricephalos) in the game and defeat the Gladius, Beast of Night boss.

Once the enemy has been slain, you’ll receive the Old Pocketwatch and be transported back to the Roundtable Hold. Interact with the masked Priestess and then select the option to hand over the watch. This will trigger a cutscene that sees the Priestess remove her hood to reveal that she was the Duchess. You can now walk up to the Character Selection altar and switch to the Duchess before embarking on a new expedition.

  • HP: 165
  • FP: 65
  • Stamina: 54
  • Playstyle: Stealthy and Agile Assassin
  • Starting Gear: Duchess’ Dagger
  • Skill: Restage
  • Passive Ability: Magnificent Pose
  • Ultimate Art: Finale

The class leans heavily towards DEX and INT, meaning the Duchess is proficient with weapons such as Daggers and has the required attributes for sorceries. The best way to use the character is by taking advantage of her swift mobility to spring in and out of combat and evade direct duels. Her sizable FP pool allows for sustained spell casting so that you can wield a dagger or a curved sword in one hand and a staff in the other.

In terms of abilities, her passive, Magnificent Poise, allows the character to pull off smooth dodges while her Restage skill re-inflicts the damage your attack combos caused seconds earlier, so you can put together some devastating offensive sequences. Lastly, the Duchess’ Ultimate Finale offers a brief period of invisibility, rendering herself and nearby allies completely invisible.

We recommend augmenting your armament with magic damage to boost her overall damage output. Once you can pull off a sweeping offensive combo, trigger her Restage character skill to re-inflict all that damage. While in combat, always remember that her HP pool is on the lower side, so poor positioning can result in a premature end to your run.

And that wraps up our guide on how to unlock the Duchess in Elden Ring Nightreign. Which is your favorite class in the game so far? Let us know in the comments.
