Night Aspect is the final expedition in Elden Ring Nightreign, initially hidden. Heolstor the Nightlord is the third day boss for this expedition and also the final boss of Nightreign. The Heolstor boss fight is easily one of the best-designed fights in Soulsbourne history, and he is equally as challenging to defeat. However, you can defeat this final boss easily with proper weapons and team compositions. After going toe to toe with this demon multiple times, here’s a full guide on how to defeat the Elden Ring Nightreign Night Aspect boss.
How to Unlock Night Aspect in Elden Ring Nightreign
The Night Aspect expedition is locked in Elden Ring Nightreign until the players meet the requirement of beating the four different Nightlords. Defeating Tricephalos is counted as one, so you only need to defeat three more Nightlords once the game fully unlocks after defeating Gladius, Beast of Night.

The following are the easiest Nightlords you can defeat to unlock Night Aspect after defeating Tricephalos:
- Augur — Maris, Fathom of Night
- Sentient Pest — Gnoster, Wisdom of Night
- Caligo — Fissure in the Fog
Although you can choose to defeat any Nightlord, these are still the easiest to fight in the game. All three of the bosses have easily exploitable gimmicks and can be easily conquered with a proper team. Once done, keep reading below to defeat the Elden Ring Nightreign final boss.
Heolstor the Nightlord Strengths and Weaknesses
- Strengths
- Immune to Poison
- Immune to Bleed
- Very Aggressive
- Fights with Multiple Elemental Attacks
- Weaknesses
- Holy
- Scarlet Rot
Night Aspect or Heolstor the Nightlord is one of the hardest bosses in the game, mainly due to the extremely aggressive nature of the boss and immunity to multiple ailments. After multiple fights (and wins) with the Nightlord, we can confirm that it is immune to Bleed and Poison.
Regarding weaknesses, Heolstor the Nightlord is only weak to Holy damage. However, we have tested that Scarlet Rot still works on him.

Heolstor the Nightlord Moveset
Heolstor the Nightlord may appear as one of the most complicated boss fights in Nightreign, but that isn’t true when you actually dissect its attack patterns. The hyper-aggressive nature of the fight makes it difficult for most players. Let’s take a look at Heolstor’s moves and learn how to dodge his attacks.
- Shape of Night: This is the first phase of Heolstor the Nightlord. During this phase, the boss moves slowly and only attacks with sweeping sword strikes. Save your resources during this portion of the fight.

- Multiple Swords: After defeating the Shape of Night, the real fight begins as Hoelstor starts wielding all three of his swords — straight sword, rapier, and great sword. It uses all three of them when charging at a player with different move animations for each weapon type, so be aware of it.

- Lunging Stab and Dark Explosion: Heolstor launches himself at a player in a stabbing attack with darkness shrouding his blade and follows up with another attack that causes a big explosion. This combo can kill most characters in the game, so make sure you dodge it at all costs. This attack is launched chiefly at the very start of the second phase.

- Dark Shroud: Heolstor shrouds itself in darkness, launching multiple projectiles in the air that home in on the players. The projectiles will target anyone who stays close to the Hoelstor, downing them instantly. So, either sprint away quickly or use Ultimate abilities to break the attack.

- Sky Splitter: This is the most iconic attack of Night Aspect. Hoelstor splits open the sky and causes a massive blast in four directions. This attack can be imbued with different ailments, based on the color of the sky. If the sky is split in a light blue color, the attacks will be frost damage, and if the sky is yellow, it will deal Madness damage.

- Ground Explosion: After Hoelstor splits the sky, the ground around him will start to erupt randomly. The damage type of this ground blast is based on the affinity it uses during the Sky Splitter.
- Sweeping Projectiles: Hoelstor can use his great sword to launch sweeping projectiles, similar to the weapon art of the Dark Moon Greatsword.
Best Nightfarers to Beat Elden Ring Nightreign Final Boss
- Raider/Guardian (one tank will help a lot)
- Ironeye/Duchess
- Wylder
- Executor (deflects are possible)
The Night Aspect boss fight is mainly suited for melee characters. As Heolstor constantly pushes boundaries and lunges at players, it is best to have characters that can survive the onslaught. One tank in the fight is almost required. A properly built Guardian is better than a Raider for this fight, as he can draw aggro and keep your team alive with passive buffs.
Next, you ideally need one damage dealer in the team, either Duchess or Ironeye. Both are excellent options, as the extra damage from Weakness Point and Restage can greatly damage Hoelstor. Although you can also use both Duchess and Ironeye in a team alongside a tank, it is better to have a versatile character.

For the final spot, both Wylder and Executor are excellent options. I personally prefer Wylder, as he has a big FP pool and can spam Weapon Arts. Equipping a weapon with good weapon art, like Gargoyles Straight Sword, the Blasphemous Blade, or Marika’s Hammer, can allow him to easily destroy the Nightlord.
Executor, on the other hand, is one of the best Nightreign solo characters to fight the final boss Night Aspect, only if you can deflect attacks properly. Almost all of Hoelstor’s attacks can be deflected with Executor’s skill, and his Ultimate is arguably the best in the game for reviving, survival, and dealing damage.
How to Prepare for Night Aspect in Elden Ring Nightreign
Preparation is key in Elden Ring Nightreign, even more so when fighting against Night Aspect. Here is everything you need to prepare for before the fight:
- Find a Holy weapon: Hoelstor is weak to Holy damage, making it almost necessary to have Holy weapon with you in the game. The best way to get your hands on a Holy weapon is by targeting ruins and camps marked with the Holy icon.
- Scarlet Rot: The final boss is also susceptible to Scarlet Rot. Find weapons or incantations that can build up Rot and give them to your ally with the highest Arcane scaling, like Executor. As Scarlet Rot deals damage based on Max HP, it is perfect against the Night Aspect.
- Use Relics that boost Holy Damage: As you will already use Holy weapons in the game, it is best to use Nightreign Relics that also amplify the Holy Damage.
- Reach Level 13: The Night Aspect is extremely strong, and you need to have high enough max HP to survive the onslaught of the damage. For characters other than tanks, you at least need to be level 13 to survive most of Hoelstor’s attacks. Learn how to level up fast in Elden Ring Nightreign to hit max level in every expedition.
- Hit all Churches: Due to the aggressive nature of the Final Boss, you will likely find yourself healing frequently. That’s why planning a route that hits all the churches in Limveld for that run is necessary. Ensure you get all the healing flask charges you can, giving you a big advantage in the fight.
- Build Elemental Negation: Hoelstor deals a ton of elemental damage. So, if you get an Elemental Damage negation buff during loot drops, choosing it over other options can be smart.

How to Beat Heolstor the Nightlord in Elden Ring Nightreign
I have fought Heolstor the Nightlord three times over my playthrough, winning all three encounters. You can do the same if you keep the following details in mind:
- Save Resources in Phase 1: You must save all your resources during the fight against Shape of Night, or the first phase of the Nightlord. This phase is straightforward, but can be punishing if you don’t pay attention. Take a cautious approach during this part of the fight and avoid using too many healing flasks.
- Scarlet Rot is amazing: If you have a Scarlet Rot weapon or incantation, it is paramount that you spam it enough to proc on the final boss. Scarlet Rot does so much damage to the final boss that not using it is a big mistake.
- Touch and run tactic: A good way to fight Heolstor is the touch-and-run method popular in most Soulsborne games. This method has not been used in Nightreign by most in the multiplayer due to the reviving mechanic. However, it is very useful against a hyper aggressive boss like Hoelstor.
- Stun during Sky Splitter and Dark Shroud attacks: You can actually stun Heolstor with the Iron Eye’s Ultimate when it tries to do the massive Sky Splitter attack. This tactic can significantly minimize the damage output of the final boss. Another good tactic is to stun Hoelstor when he shrouds himself in darkness. Most poise breaking Ultimate abilities in the game can stun him during this attack.
- Tanks must draw aggro: It is very important for tanks to draw aggro from Hoelstor, because his damage can easily down your damage-dealing allies. Use relics that draw aggro when blocking or simply charge in to get his attention on you. This will make the fight a lot easier.

So, this is how you can defeat Heolstor the Nightlord in Elden Ring Nightreign. It isn’t the easiest boss to defeat, but Night Aspect is a fair fight that can be won if you simply follow the instructions given above. If still in doubt, reach out to us in the comments below.
