With Elden Ring Nightreign’s release on the horizon, FromSoftware have provided a ton of detail about the title’s core gameplay loop and its class system. In Nightreign, players must choose a Nightfarer out of a selection of prebuilt heroes that come with unique abilities and cater to specific playstyles. With eight different classes to pick from, the game offers solid variety across the board. So with that, let’s check out all the Nightfarer classes available in Elden Ring Nightreign.
All Nightfarer Classes in Elden Ring Nightreign
Elden Ring Nightreign offers eight different nightfarer classes for players to pick from before they start their journey in Limveld. Each class has unique weapons, skills, passive abilities, and ultimate arts. But remember that you cannot change the character’s appearances; only modifications can be made to their armor. With that said, meet Elden Ring Nightreign’s heroes below:
1. Wylder

- Playstyle: Versatile Warrior
- Weapon: Greatsword and a Shield
- Skill: Claw Shot
- Passive Ability: Sixth Sense
- Ultimate Art: Onslaught Stake
Every Souls game has that one all-rounder class that offers a friendly experience for beginners, and it is the Wylder here. Wylder is a versatile warrior bearing a greatsword and a small shield, but the class is said to be proficient in all kinds of melee weapons. He also has a grappling hook prosthetic equipped to drag or pull close to enemies.
Furthermore, his passive ability can save you once from a life-ending hit from enemies, and his Onslaught Stake ultimate can be used to unleash a powerful explosion to deal massive damage to both health and stance.
2. Guardian

- Playstyle: Tank
- Weapon: Halberd and Greatshield
- Skill: Whirlwind
- Passive Ability: Steel Guard
- Ultimate Art: Wings of Salvation
A tanky hero with a huge chunk of health and stamina is always a sound option for melee builds. So players who love to play defense and charge at enemies with a Halberd and a Greatshield will find plenty to like in the Guardian. His passive ability, Steel Guard, sees the Nightfarer bunker down and brace for impact using the shield against heavy blows.
The Guardian’s character skill, Whirlwind, lets players whip up a wind-churning cyclone that can elevate enemies while deflecting incoming arrows. Lastly, the Wings of Salvation Ultimate Art sees the character leap up high in the air and come crashing down to leave opponents devastated, and also raise a protective barrier.
3. Recluse

- Playstyle: Sorceress
- Weapon: Staff
- Skill: Magic Cocktail
- Passive Ability: Elemental Defense
- Ultimate Art: Soulblood Song
Next up, we have the Recluse for players who prefer casting spells from afar. As a sorceress, the character has various magical abilities at her disposal, including fire, magic, holy, and lightning spells. Her abilities can be tricky to grasp initially, but they’re all built around siphoning FP from enemies to sustain her spell casting or produce a Magic Cocktail.
Recluse can recharge her FP by collective affinity residues using her passive ability. She can also obtain affinity residues from her enemies to unleash a magical attack. Her ultimate is an overpowered move which sees the Sorceress apply a curse mark on an enemy, allowing her fellow Nightfarers to replenish their health and mana by attacking the marked enemy.
4. Duchess

- Playstyle: Stealthy and Agile Assassin
- Weapon: Dagger
- Skill: Restage
- Passive Ability: Magnificent Pose
- Ultimate Art: Finale
Agility/Dexterity builds have always been popular in FromSoft games, and the Duchess class caters to precisely this demand. The Duchess is highly agile and can quickly proc the bleed effect using her dagger. She’s light on her feet, incredibly nimble, and great at maneuvering in and out of combat.
Her passive ability shows off the character’s mobility, allowing the Duchess to dodge multiple times, more than any other class. Her Restage skill is also quite powerful, as activating it will basically re-inflict the damage your attack combos caused seconds earlier. And if you and your friends need to go into complete stealth mode, Duchess’s ultimate offers a brief period of invisibility.
5. Ironeye

- Playstyle: Archer
- Weapon: Bow and Arrow
- Skill: Marking
- Passive Ability: Eagle Eye
- Ultimate Art: Single Shot
During an interview, Nightreign’s director, Junya Ishizaki, talked about “a certain character who could summon a rock pillar to climb and snipe arrows from.” This is undoubtedly the Archer class that debuted in the first trailer. This nightfarer’s class is befittingly titled, ‘Ironeye’, and it comes with a marking skill that can break the poise of enemies and expose their vulnerabilities.
Ironeye’s ultimate, Single Shot, unleashes an unstoppable strike that tears through everything in its way, leaving no survivors as the title indicates. Lastly, Ironeye’s passive ability helps the nightfarer find more valuable items from the enemies that other classes can’t so easily discover.
6. Raider

- Playstyle: Juggernaut
- Weapon: Hammeraxe
- Skill: Retaliate
- Passive Ability: Fighter’s Resolve
- Ultimate Art: Totem Stela
The Guardian isn’t the only tank character, as another hulking hero is blessed with a ton of HP and wields a heavy weapon. He is the relentless seafarer known as the Raider. Tailored for players who enjoy pure STR builds, the character is built around taking punishment and delivering it back twofold. His passive ability plays into this playstyle as taking damage boosts the character’s Retaliate potency, and he also can’t be knocked down while using it.
His ultimate art is called Totem Stela, with which players can call forth a towering tombstone. It is used to block the enemies’ attacks, take the high ground, and, more importantly, boost the strength of the allies surrounding the gravestone.
Unrevealed Nightfarer Classes in Elden Ring Nightreign
The above six classes have been unveiled in the Elden Ring Nightreign network test and previews, but two other Nightfarers are yet to be revealed. That said, we got glimpses of the remaining heroes through the latest bits of game footage. So, here are the two unrevealed Nightreign classes:
1. Executor

- Playstyle: Samurai
- Weapon: Katana
As someone who loves to parry, I was surprised to see a samurai-esque character wielding a katana and parrying an enemy in the trailer. With every perfect parry, the katana with golden veins seems to glow further, which hints at a power-up of this character. The character’s name is revealed to be ‘Executor,’ and we’ll have to wait for the complete reveal to learn more about this character’s abilities.
2. Revenant

- Playstyle: Spirit Summoner
- Weapon: Double-Bladed Scythe and Harp
In an interview with IGN Japan, the game director Junya Ishizaki also teased another character whom we haven’t met in any trailer or previews. Junya mentioned that “one of the eight playable characters is a character who mainly fights using ashes.” Now, the latest overview trailer has shared a glimpse of this character’s abilities.
She is called the Revenant and wields a double-bladed scythe and harp. While the scythe is her melee weapon that deals impact damage, she can also use her harp to summon spirits. So, we can look forward to a character who summons spirit ashes to have an extra hand in fighting against the gruesome foes of Nightreign.
And that’s a wrap to our list of various classes in Elden Ring Nightreign. There are only six confirmed classes so far, and we expect to hear more about the rest soon, as the game is coming out later this month. Nightreign is absolutely packed with a variety of nightfarers, so there are a lot of different playstyles to master.
