How to Beat Furnace Golems in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

In Short
  • The Furnace Golem is a brand-new enemy in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.
  • They can tank almost every attack you can throw at it but do have a poise break from continuous physical hits.
  • To take them out, you can poise-break then attack its face at the right, or throw some hefty fire pots in its brazier after breaking its stance.

So you’ve finally begun Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. But before you know it, you’ve run into a colossal new enemy named the Furnace Golem. As big as the standard giants in Elden Ring, the Furnace Golems are a frustrating mini-boss to fight against. However, if you’re worried don’t be as we show you how to beat the Furnace Golem in Elden Ring!

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Furnace Golem Location

Now, let’s get one thing out of the way immediately. You cannot explore or even find a Furnace Golem in the Lands Between map of Elden Ring. This is only a DLC-specific enemy, as it has some story connotations. These giant beings arrived in Shadow Lands when Mesmer laid siege to the island. You can prominently see them in the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree story trailer.

The Furnace Golem only walks around the broader section of the Shadow Realm map. You won’t see them in the tighter legacy dungeon of the game. The first Furnace Golem you encounter is before the Three-Cross Site of Grace. And since it is a giant behemoth, you can technically ignore it, move on with your duties, and return to the fight later.

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Furnace Golem Weaknesses

A Furnace Golem in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

The first thing you’ll notice while fighting a Furnace Golem is how much damage it tanks from any attack. Unlike a standard giant, Furnace Golem withstands most attacks. However, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t come with any chinks in its armor. Some of Elden Ring Furnace Golem’s weaknesses include:

  • Aim for the weak points: While almost fully invulnerable, Furnace Golems have certain weak spots that you can hit for damage. This includes the face plate, the large flaming opening on their upper back, and more.
  • Don’t forget the legs: Certain Furnace Golems come with legs that can be attacked to break their poise. Damaging the legs enough will ensure they fall over thereby opening them up to critical damage.

How to Defeat the Elden Ring Furnace Golem

Thankfully, the Furnace Golems only come with a handful of attacks you can avoid. Furthermore, they don’t respawn once defeated. So if you’ve run into a Furnace Golem, keep reading to learn how to defeat it below:

  • Watch out for its AOE: The Furnace Golem has two entire AOE attacks which include a massive foot stomp and jumping on the ground with its entire body. In both cases, it will cause massive fire damage. If it is a foot stomp, the fire spread has invincibility frames. Roll thrice on the ground to avoid the fire spread. However, if you’re dealing with its jumping attack, then we use running away on your horse.
  • Fire Showers are bad: If you’re spotted by a Furnace Golem, it will shoot out a summoning cluster of fireballs. These attacks have incredible range so I suggest being super mindful of them.
  • Use Torrent: As with the original Elden Ring, Torrent is our best friend. Since Furnace Golem fights happen in an open field, you can ride your horse Torrent and slash away at the giant.
  • Use Hefty Fire Pots: The Hefty Fire Pots and Furnace Pots are new Erdtree items capable of some massive damage. You can choose to throw these pots right into the Furnace Golem’s basket to take out one-fifth of its HP or massively damage it respectively.
  • Target the face plate: While a bit risky, you can try meleeing the Furnace Golem’s face plate with a melee attack or a ranged one. Doing so will take away a chunk of its health.
  • Use your best main-game weapon: While you might think this is obvious, we want you to be prepared. Furnace Golem tanks almost every attack in its way. Hence, use the best weapon you have to stand a chance.

Elden Ring Furnace Golem Boss Fight Rewards

Once you’ve damaged the Furnace Golem enough, it should fall flat on its legs and die. Beating the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Furnace Golem also rewards players with a brand-new Crystal Tear and Furnace Visages.
