Duke Inferno is the latest villain added to Honkai Star Rail and will likely play a major role in the upcoming Penacony Trailblaze missions starting from Honkai Star Rail 2.0. Although we have little information on Duke Inferno, the information we do have suggests that they will prove to be a major villain in Penacony. Here is everything we know about Duke Inferno in Honkai Star Rail and what they entail for the upcoming Penacony missions.

Who is Duke Inferno in Honkai Star Rail?

Duke Inferno and Everflame Mansion

Duke Inferno is the leader of the Ever-Flame mansion faction, belonging to the Annihilation Gang. His real name is Ifrit and he was first introduced in the Ashblazing Grand Duke relic set.

The lore of the relic set revealed that Ifrit’s homeland, Fetora, was destroyed by Nanook, the Aeon of Destruction, which gave birth to the Fire Demons. Ifrit became obsessed with destruction and slaughter and has orchestrated countless crises. Duke Inferno in Honkai Star Rail regards Nanook as their emperor and savior, while the Aeon only holds contempt towards them.

According to Dr. Ratio, Ifrit was born from the Phase Flame which we saw him using during the Crown of the Mundane and Divine trailblaze continuance mission, where he abducted Asta in Herta Space Station’s Seclusion Zone.

The new video from Honkai Star Rail reveals a lot more about Duke Inferno’s plans in Penacony. The trailer reveals Duke Inferno — voiced by Bob Johnson, instructing his “family members” — Akash, Dubra, Caterina, and Constance, the members of the Ever-Flame faction, to bring chaos to Penacony.

It is clear that Duke Inferno wants to bring chaos and destruction to Penacony, and the Charmony festival held by The Family is likely going to be the center place of his main villainous plot.

Duke Inferno’s character design is on-point, perfectly showcasing that ominous villainous vibe we expect from someone with his background. The combination of a literal demon wearing the sophisticated dress of a duke gives him additional weight as a smart and dangerous villain. And I love that monocle.

Is Duke Ifrit Inferno Dead in HSR?

In the last mission of Honkai Star Rail 2.0, Whodunit, both Aventurine and Black Swan reveal that Duke Inferno and his entire family were killed on their way to Penacony. Aventurine then suggests that Acheron, the Galaxy Ranger, was the one who killed Duke Inferno and the Ever-Flame family.

However, it is highly doubtful that Duke Inferno is truly dead and doesn’t make an appearance in Penacony later in the story. Ifrit had too much of a buildup before the release of Honkai Star Rail 2.0 for HoYoverse to throw it out of the window. It is very much possible that Acheron did intercept Ifrit and his Ever-flame family and had an altercation that delayed them. But according to the current story, Duke Ifrit Inferno is dead and likely killed by Acheron.

Ifrit Kit in Honkai Star Rail

Duke Inferno is likely going to be a Destruction character, as he literally walks on the Path of Destruction. We don’t have much information on his kit, but can safely assume him to be a Fire Damage Type character. This can be deduced from his origin as a Fire Demon, his name, title, and the use of Phase Flame.

Other than that, his connections to the Ashblazing Grand Duke Relic set also point towards a character with Follow-up attacks in the arsenal. However, most of these are just presumptions and we will need to wait for more information.

Is Duke Inferno Playable in Honkai Star Rail?

Duke Inferno looks too cool to not eventually be a playable character. His style is already creating a stir in the Honkai Star Rail community, with accounts constantly popping up as Duke Inferno main.

Unfortunately, Honkai Star Rail has yet to make any of their major story villains playable characters. Both Cocolia and Phantylia The Lord Ravager are not playable, although many leaks revealed that Cocolia was planned to be a playable character before HoYoverse decided against it.

Seeing how Duke Inferno is setting up to be a major villain in the Honkai Star Rail Penacony arc, the trend suggests that he won’t be a playable character. But this is all just a presumption and we all must wait for HoYoverse to officially announce it.
