Outward is one of my favorite RPGs of all time. It features a classic RPG look with one of the most unique magic systems I have ever encountered in gaming. The game has a dodge-and-hit style combat system, reminiscent of Souls. However, what makes it true soulslike is the pacing of most enemy counters. Every fight is a challenge, whether they are local bandits, a lightning-throwing mantis, or an old demon.

Preparation is a big part of Outward, as laying traps and using the correct potions before each fight make a big difference. The game also requires little handholding, letting players discover the rich world at their own pace.
