Mega Charizard Y EX Deck Strategy
Mega Charizard Y deck uses eight Pokemon cards in total. Your focus on Turn 1 should be getting Moltres EX into the Active Spot. If that doesn’t happen, starting with Charmander is completely fine as well. Just make sure to keep it alive long enough to evolve into Mega Charizard Y EX, either through Charmeleon or with the help of Rare Candy. Players who don’t want to depend on Moltres EX’s random Energy generation can instead rely on Magby for a more consistent setup.
You also won’t struggle much with card draw, thanks to support options like May, Copycat, Poke Ball, and Professor’s Research. The newer Charmeleon works especially well here because evolving Charmander into it gives your Active Pokemon a free Fire Energy. On top of that, Flame Patch can further speed up your Energy setup by attaching extra Fire Energy to your Active Pokemon.
A non-EX Charizard has also been included in the Mega Charizard Y EX deck specifically for the Pom-Pom Oricorio matchup. Since Oricorio blocks damage from EX Pokemon, using a non-EX attacker becomes the easiest way to deal with it. In this case, Charizard can comfortably secure the knockout with its high damage output. Torkoal is another decent alternative if you want an attacker that only needs two Energy to attack.
Mega Charizard Y EX stands out as one of the best cards in the game, due to its moveset. Crimson Dive can instantly KO any Pokemon card, but it comes with a drawback, though, as it deals 50 recoil damage to you.
Because of this, it’s better to save the attack for the opponent’s strongest EX or Mega EX Pokemon to gain maximum value. Cyrus can also help by forcing those key targets into the Active Spot. With this deck, you can expect opponents to immediately pressure your damaged Pokemon with cards such as Mega Blastoise EX or Greninja Suicune EX.
That said, if you don’t have Mega Charizard Y EX, feel free to try out and explore other decks. Comment down below if you have any deck suggestions.
