Arcane Season 2: What Happened to Viktor?

Arcane Season 2 arrived three years after the first season, and we can’t deny that the animated TV series started to amaze us from the very first moment. Jinx, as expected, caused huge destruction in the concluding minutes of Season 1 with her Hextech-imbued rocket. The first act of Arcane Season 2 allowed us to learn that Mel and Jayce, who were present in the tower during the attack, somehow managed to survive while some councilors were found dead. Moreover, Viktor nearly died in this attack, but Jayce still doesn’t lose hope and uses Hextech to keep his friend alive as long as he can.

Spoiler Warning: This post includes spoilers for Arcane Season 2, now out on Netflix.

Viktor was never part of the Piltover’s council, but there’s no denying that he played a significant role in giving wings to Jayce’s dreams. He became Jayce’s biggest support system and helped him make Piltover one of the most advanced cities in terms of technology. So, when he was almost killed in Jinx’s explosive attack, Jayce didn’t give up. The brilliant inventor used Hextech technology, and more specifically the Hexcore, to create a cocoon and keep Viktor’s heart beating.

This isn’t the first time Hexcore has affected Viktor in Arcane. Previously, we saw the mysterious technology cure his leg. However, this time, Hextech affected not only Viktor’s body but also his mind and heart.

While we thought Viktor was dead, the animated series surprised us by bringing him back to life, but this time in a new form. After coming out of the cocoon, we see Viktor’s transformed mechanical body emitting purple light.

Waking up from the coma, Viktor heads to his best friend Jayce, and the first thing he asks is, ‘Who am I?’ Of course, like us, he was also surprised seeing his newly formed body. When Jayce asks him if he feels cold, Viktor replies that he can’t sense anything other than a charge running down his body.

Viktor then says Jayce promised him he would stop Hexcore, but why didn’t he do that? Jayce replies that Hexcore is not that bad, so he has decided to give it another chance. Hearing this, Viktor remembered Sky, who lost her life because of this technology. Viktor also tells Jayce that his journey with him has ended, and he doesn’t want to be a part of any of his inventions. Viktor, who had never left Jayce’s side before, finally decided to move on and embark on a new journey.

Viktor Finally Stops Feeling Helpless

Due to his chronic illness, Viktor has been helpless throughout his life. However, now, finally, he will be able to live his life on his own terms and help people around him — thanks to the Hexcore.

After bidding goodbye to Jayce, when Viktor walks through the streets of Zaun, all he witnesses is the ill condition of the people. Violence and illness were all he could see everywhere. After getting spotted by many shimmer addicts, Viktor showcases what the Hexcore has blessed him with now.

The Zaunite who steps forward to loot Viktor suffers from several deformities caused by the regular use of shimmer and the ill environment of the place. He says, ‘Nothing personal, my friend, but we have got some needs we can’t ignore.

Viktor looks into his eyes and senses the pain the person is going through, so he extends his hands toward the Zaunite to help him get rid of the suffering. We see the deformed parts of the person’s body getting covered with some mechanical patches. Hence, the one who people always considered weak finally emerges as someone who can even heal people’s deformities.

How Viktor’s New Body Connects to League of Legends

Viktor is the ‘Machine Herald’ in League of Legends who believes that humanity can only realize its potential when massive technological advancements exist. He is also someone who believes that the human body is flawed and needs a mechanical backup to learn about its full potential. So, now that in Arcane Season 2, Viktor’s body is a mixture of organic and mechanical elements, it would be safe to say that the character’s story in the game, as well as the animated series, is going in the same direction.

Besides that, in the League of Legends lore, Viktor has devoted his entire life to technology, and in Arcane, we see him doing the same. Initially, he helps Jayce with his inventions, but currently, he has left everything behind and is proceeding toward a life where he will help people with his new mechanical body and the powers that come with it.
