After two developer previews and over 11 Beta updates on Pixel devices, Google is almost ready to treat you with its sweet upsidedown cake goodness with Android 14. While the same doesn’t bring ground-breaking features and UI changes that Android 12 introduced, it does feature (pun intended) some really nice quality of improvement and minor features that should enhance your experience, something that we’ve already covered in our Android 14 features article. In this article, however, let’s look at when your Pixel device will get the Android 14 stable update.
If you have an Android from a different manufacturer, you may want to look at our Android 14 compatible devices list where we’ve compiled a list of all OEMs and their devices that may receive the Android 14 update in the future.
As for the release date, all the Pixel devices starting with Pixel 4a 5G will receive the Android 14 update on October 4, the same day as the Pixel 8 series launch. As per the updates made to the AOSP tree, Android 14 was supposed to be released on September 4 but the same has been delayed to next month. If you’ve lost track of all Google devices that will receive the update, here’s a list of them.
- Pixel 4a 5G
- Pixel 5 / Pixel 5a
- Pixel 6 / 6 Pro / 6a
- Pixel 7 / 7 Pro / 7a
- Pixel Fold
- Pixel Tablet
- Pixel 8 (Pre-installed Android 14)
All devices in the Pixel portfolio should get the update on the same day. As for other OEMs like OnePlus and Samsung which had planned the release in the same month as Google, we’re not sure if Google has embargoed that release which would mean manufacturers would have no choice but to postpone the update to October. The good news is, that we still know when the update’s coming, the bad news is, that it’s still one month away.
Either way, if you’re impatient you can try Android 14 out by enrolling your Pixel into the Beta program since the Beta has now reached platform stability and should be pretty stable. That said, if you don’t want to encounter hidden bugs, it might be a wise decision to wait until Android 14’s release date.
