Call of Duty Black Ops 7 Zombies offers plenty of reasons to be excited for fans of the game mode. Not only is the OG crew returning, but Treyarch has also crafted the biggest round-based map in franchise history, featuring some new and familiar locations. As always, the map can be experienced through different modes, and for BO7, the devs have prepared something beyond the Standard and Directed formats. With this in mind, here are all the modes in Black Ops 7 Zombies.
Black Ops 7 Zombies Modes
At launch, Black Ops 7 Zombies will feature four different modes. Here’s an overview of all four:
- Standard: Classic round-based format with access to the main easter eggs and all side content.
- Directed: Streamlined path through a Zombies map, where clear objectives and guided progression keep you locked on the Main Quest. Directed will arrive sometime after launch.
- Survival: A focused, unfiltered experience based on a small part of Ashes of the Damned at launch. There are no quests, other than you and your squad surviving against the relentless undead for as long as you can.
- Cursed: Take on a new experience featuring some legacy mechanics, with numerous side quests to unearth increasingly potent Relics. Activate these Relics to face harder challenges in exchange for new levels of power, replayability, and rewards.
Black Ops 7 Zombies Survival Mode Explained
As mentioned earlier, Survival mode in BO7 Zombies is all about withstanding the endless undead onslaught. The objective is to survive for as long as possible and exfil before you’re overwhelmed by the Zombie horde.
The first Survival Map coming at launch is a focused, bite-sized experience set on the Vandorn Family Farm, and it’ll also be playable in the Black Ops 7 Beta.
In Survival, you and your crew venture within the perimeter of a map — in this case, the farmstead — and hold out for as long as possible. There are fewer places to run, Ol’ Tessie is out of commission, and tactical positioning is the key to keeping the undead forces at bay.
Any accessible caches and machines available in Standard Mode appear in an identical location in Survival Mode. Other interactive Crafting Tables, Wall Buys, or machines not in the Standard Mode area of the map are moved into the Survival map, allowing you to be fully tooled up, provided you’ve got the necessary Essence and Salvage.
Black Ops 7 Zombies Cursed Mode Explained
The primary attraction on the modes front is undoubtedly Cursed. Built for hardcore players, Cursed Mode is straightforward in structure but much more difficult in terms of the challenge. In fact, you’ll need to unlock the mode before being able to play it, although Treyarch hasn’t yet revealed the requirements for accessing it.
You’ll start Cursed with just a pistol in hand, no loadouts, no minimap, and a classic point system inspired by Black Ops 3. From there, your focus is on finding archaic artifacts of great power, known as Relics, hidden away across Dark Aether time and space. Each Relic is themed around a totem from Black Ops Zombies’ history. It also has a unique condition for being accessed, and the requirements can be unforgiving.
With Relics becoming available in varying degrees of cursed power, your future Cursed matches – available as Private matches with the host’s collection of Relics available to pick from — are set to become even more hectic as you hunt down more dangerous artifacts. Each Black Ops 7 Zombies map will also have more Relics to discover throughout the post-launch seasons.
Given the added difficulty, Cursed Mode will likely offer unique rewards such as Blueprints and Calling Mode, but all this is yet to be confirmed.
