Yes, we do know her name to be Rio Vidal but according to theories on the internet, she might be connected to Lady Death and now with the latest episode, it has been confirmed that she is indeed Lady Death. However, are you familiar with who Lady Death is in Marvel? if not, this article is for you!
Who Is Lady Death in Marvel Comics?
Lady Death is a physical embodiment of Death and one of the antagonists in Marvel Comics. She made her first appearance in Captain Marvel #26 in 1973. In the comic books, she was the love interest of Thanos and since Deadpool could not die, she was drawn to him creating one of the most unusual love triangles we have seen in Marvel Comics. However, this is not the first time her presence has been seen in the MCU. Statues dedicated to Lady Death and Murals have also been spotted in movies like Thor: Love and Thunder and Guardians of The Galaxy.
This is the first time we see a live-action representation of Lady Death. So it’s pretty exciting for Marvel comic fans. Since we have been promised that Agatha All Along will expand further into the live-action MCU, let’s hope we get to see her again in some other project.
Rio Vidal is Lady Death in Agatha All Along
Aubrey Plaza’s character has been around since the very first episode of Agatha All Along and there was always this mysterious aura surrounding her. Since the very first time we see her, we just have a feeling that there’s a lot more to her than meets the eye. Now, with Episode 7, it has been confirmed that Rio Vidal is indeed Lady Death.
However, theories surrounding this have been around since the series debuted on Disney+. One of the first theories came from a Reddit user stating that Rio Vidal could be Lady Death in disguise.
We all were aware that Agatha had been defying death for a long time by absorbing life force and powers from other witches. According to this Reddit user, if you look at the early promotional art of Agatha All Along, it is created using Tarot cards where Death is mentioned. On the card, Death is dressed strikingly similar to how Rio dresses in her witch outfit. On top of that the knife she uses to attack Agatha in episode 2, is also the same as the one seen on the Tarot card.
Another point they mention is Audrey’s character tells Agatha that she has a “black heart that beats” for Agatha. This points towards that Rio is after Agatha’s life and is drawn to her since she has been escaping death for a long time.
When Rio Vidal attacks Agatha, She tells Rio “You know the rules, you can’t kill me”. According to the mythos, Death cannot inflict itself on someone based on its will. Essentially, death cannot have someone when it wants to have them. So, this was also a subtle hint that Rio Vidal could be Death and Agatha knows it. In further episodes, we see that when the covenant was using the Ouija Board and it spelled out death, Rio started laughing. There have been hints all along the series leading to the final revelation in this episode.
With that being said, now that we know Rio is Death, let’s wait and see where this takes us in the final two episodes of the series, and till then, stay tuned with us for further updates!
