How to Reach Abyssal Woods in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

The Realm of Shadows in the Elden Ring DLC contains a ton of both canon and optional areas that hide many secrets. One such place is Abyssal Woods, a dark land that houses a creepy and eerie look. However, it also harbors the optional boss Midra, Lord of the Frenzied Flames. Unfortunately, getting to Abyssal Woods is very tricky and most players will likely have trouble finding it themselves. To help you out, we decided to sit down and teach you how to get to Abyssal Woods in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. So with that, let’s begin!

How to Get to Abyssal Woods in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

To reach Abyssal Woods in the Elden Ring DLC, you need to clear the Darklight Catacombs. However, reaching the location marked below can be quite tricky. Follow the steps below to do so:

• First, you need to teleport to Shadowkeep’s Main Gate Plaza Site of Grace. You can access this section after defeating the Golden Hippopotamus in the Shadow Keep.
• Now use the left door and continue to make your way up the stairs, past the knight, and to the open area with boats with flames. You can also use the right side door if you have unlocked it.
• Continue heading East, towards the last two boats at the end. On the left side between the last and 2nd last boats, you will find a ladder heading down, next to a body. Use the ladder to descend to the lower ledge.

• Run along the ledge to the right and you will come across another ladder. Use this ladder to reach the bottom of the Shadow Keep.
• Now, as you walk into the next room, you will see a painting in a closed room. Hit the empty right side wall after entering the room to dissipate an invisible wall.

• Head inside the secret room and you will come across a Coffin. Interact with the coffin to use it and drop down the waterfall, in classic FromSoftware fashion.
• After you reach the bottom of the waterfall, continue heading East to reach the Castle Watering Hole Site of Grace.

• From here you need to move South to the edge of the waterfall. Here you must either beat the Furnace Golem or run past it.
• At the edge of the waterfall, you will find the Recluses’ River Upstream Site of Grace. From there, continue heading south until you reach the Recluses’ River Downstream Site of Grace.

• From here you need to continue heading South by jumping downwards. Don’t worry, as you won’t receive damage as long as you keep dropping on platforms and heading south.
• Eventually, you will drop down a plain area with graves and statues. Look around in the North-East to find the Darklight Catacombs.

• Now, you need to reach the bottom of the Darklight Catacombs and defeat the Jori, the Elder Inquisitor boss.

• After defeating him, you will be able to access the Forsaken Graveyard Site of Grace. From there, you can enter the Abyssal Woods.

What to Do in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Abyssal Woods?

As we mentioned above, Abyssal Woods is the home to Midra, Lord of the Frenzied Flames. The place is crawling with enemies who build Madness on hits. Some of the enemies in the Abyssal Woods cannot be defeated and you must stealth through the place to reach Midra’s Manse in the South-Western section of the Abyssal Woods.

Inside Midra’s Manse, you will get to find Midra, the Lord of the Frenzied Flames. After defeating him, you will get his remembrance, which you can turn in to the Finger Reader in the Roundtable for Midra’s Greatsword or Incantation. Also, you cannot summon Torrent in the Abyssal Woods.
