However, two years is a long time, enough for us to not clearly remember the key pointers of what happened in Part 1. So, here’s a Yellowstone Season 5 recap featuring the three most important things to know about Part 1 before you start watching Part 2!

1. John Dutton Became the Governor of Montana

In the first episode of Yellowstone Season 5 Part 1, we see that John Dutton won the election and became the Governor of Montana. However, he is not very fond of the job. Following his new job, he also temporarily teamed up with his series-long enemy Thomas Rainwater, the leader of the Native American reservation. John also fired several employees from the office and put his people in their positions.
John helped out Summer, a climate activist, and his fling to get out of prison and put her on house arrest in his own home. Beth hates Summer; they both are seen fighting the entire season and they finally engage in a brawl by the finale. The men around them let them get at it and by the time they finish, it turns out that all they needed was to beat up each other to come to terms.

2. Relationships of the Dutton Family Have Evolved

Beth and Rip had an on-and-off relationship throughout the series but they got married to each other in Season 4 and in Season 5 Part 1, they were living their own kind of happy married life. Rip knows that Beth cannot have children but he is not aware of the reason for it. Beth and Rip find Carter, a runaway teenager, and even though Rip is not really in favor of taking him in, he starts seeing himself in the kid and how John Dutton took him in. Eventually, Rip opens up to the boy and accepts him as his and Beth’s child.

Kayce is very obviously not interested in taking the inheritance of the Yellowstone Ranch which makes Beth and Rip the heir of the family business. Even after Kayce’s disinterest in taking over the family business, his and Monica’s relationship with the family especially with John Dutton starts to get better.

Monica is pregnant with her second child and just when everyone thought that things were going to get better, Monica gets into labor and since no one was available, she decides to drive herself to the doctor but gets into an accident. Even though she survives, Monica loses the baby. Monica goes into depression and that is when John Dutton comforts her and lets her know that he understands and shares the grief of losing his baby brother years ago. This further strengthens the relationship between John and Monica.

3. Jamie and Beth Have Become Arch Rivals

Beth made a power move in Season 5 by making it impossible for Market Equities to take over 28,000 acres of Montana land in a conservation easement. However, her temper as usual gets the best of her in this season as well. She gets into a bar fight where she hits a woman who was flirting with Rip, in the head with a bottle. Luckily, the woman did not press any charges and Beth was able to walk free.

On the other hand, Jamie starts dating a Market Equities Lawyer named Sarah who becomes his biggest ally in Jamie’s wish to take down the Dutton family. Beth, however, once again had an upper hand on Jamie and knew that Jamie killed his real father Garrett Randall, and used this information to put a leash on him. Even after this, Jamie did not stop and initiated an impeachment inquiry on John for abuse of power for personal gains, using his position as Attorney General. Jamie stated that John had wrongly taken control of the land and stopped the construction of an airport that would be beneficial for the state of Montana. The results of the inquiry were not revealed in part 1 so let’s wait and see what happens.

Furious and disappointed by Jaimie’s actions, Beth and John decided that it was time to send Jamie to the “Train Station” or to off him. However, since Kevin Costner has decided to step out of Yellowstone, let’s see how it is carried forward and till then, stay tuned with us for further updates!
