When we talk about drama shows, it is impossible for Yellowstone’s name not to pop up. This series is a perfect blend of action, drama, politics, and probably any other element you can think of. Now, this November, Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 is set to release and while we wait for it to come out, let’s take a look at the cast of Yellowstone to refresh our memory!
1. Kevin Costner as John Dutton
Kevin Costner appears in Yellowstone as John Dutton. He is the head or patriarch of the Dutton Family and the owner of the Yellowstone Ranch, which is the biggest ranch in the whole of the United States. In the series, it is mentioned that the Yellowstone Ranch is almost as big as Rhodes Island. John Dutton is the sixth generation of Duttons and also serves as the Montana Livestock Commissioner.
However, after being a part of the show for so long, reports state that Kevin Costner will not be appearing in Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 because of his involvement in creating his franchise of Western theme movies.
2. Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton
Kayce Dutton appears in Yellowstone as Luke Grimes who is the youngest son of John Dutton. He is a former US Navy SEAL and after leaving behind his military life, he works at his family ranch as a horseman and a ranch hand. On top of that, he is also a Livestock Agent for the Montana Livestock Association. Initially, we see that he lives separately from his family at the Broken Rock Indian Reservation with his Indian wife and her son but later on, as the show progresses, he moves back to the Yellowstone ranch.
3. Kelly Reilly as Beth Dutton
Kelly Reilly plays one of the most fierce characters in the series, Beth Dutton. She is the only daughter of John and his late wife Evelyn and even though she lives on the ranch, she is a financier by profession. While she is smart, she has a long list of issues the most prominent one of them is her emotional instability.
She also shares an off-on relationship with RipWheeler and ends up marrying him later on. Even after all her issues one of her defining factors is that she is extremely loyal to her father and would go to any extent for the interest of her family and the Yellowstone Ranch.
4. Wes Bentley as Jamie Dutton
Jamie Dutton is the only member of the Dutton family who is an outcast and is distrusted by John Dutton. Played by We Bentley, Jamie Dutton was convinced at a young age by his father to pursue law so that he could help with the well-being of the Yellowstone Ranch. However, as he grew up, Jamie decided to not work for his family and instead went on to do his own thing.
His character is desperate for love and attention from his father but whenever he attempts to do so, he is never completely successful. However, in the later seasons of Yellowstone, he stops doing that and tries to be his own man but he can’t outrun his own family.
5. Kelsey Asbille as Monica Long Dutton
Kelsey Asbille appears in Yellowstone as Monica Long Dutton. She is the wife of John’s son Kayce. Initially, she first appears in the series as a practicing teacher but later on, becomes a professor at Montana State University. She has a deep distrust in John Dutton and feels that the way Kayce is loyal to John is not right and thinks that John uses Kayce for his own good. However, gradually she opens up to him and starts trusting John.
6. Brecken Merrill as Tate Dutton
Tate Dutton is the youngest cast member of Yellowstone and plays the son of Kayce and Monica, Tate Dutton. He is the only grandchild of John Dutton and is quite drawn to know his grandfather. He loves him and is quite interested in the ranch life which is not wholeheartedly approved by his mother. Since he is the only biological grandson of John, he is the heir to the Yellowstone ranch so Kayce and John actively try to teach him his way around the ranch.
7. Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler
Rip Wheeler is one of the central characters of Yellowstone and even though he is not related to John Dutton biologically, he is like his true son. Rip, as a youngster, murdered his father when he witnessed him killing his mother and brother. Following this Rip was taken in by John and raised him as his own.
With that being said it is obvious that Rip is extremely loyal to John and is his right-hand man. He has an on-and-off relationship with John’s daughter and later on, marries her too. He is also a very dangerous man who has killed a lot of people in brutal ways for the Yellowstone ranch.
8. Jefferson White as Jimmy Hurdstrom
Jefferson White appears in the series as Jimmy Hurdstrom, who is what you can call a secondary character. Jimmy was taken in by John Dutton as a troubled young man whose grandfather begged John to give him a job. After Jimmy joined the Yellowstone ranch as a Ranch hand, he proved himself to be a hardworking man and earned John’s trust.
While he is dedicated to his job, he is also passionate about being a rodeo rider or to be more accurate, a bronc rider. He suffered grave injuries multiple times but always went back to it proving his passion for the sport. Seeing this, John sent him to the 6666 ranch in Texas to refine his sport. As of now, a spinoff series called 6666 is in development revolving around Jimmy.
9. Danny Huston as Dan Jenkins
Famous for being the face of the first live-action adaptation of Stryker in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Danny Huston appears in Yellowstone as an extremely rich and cunning land developer who is hellbent on claiming the Yellowstone ranch from the Dutton family by hook or crook. Throughout this series, he in one way or the other interacts with all the members of the Dutton family and even becomes an uneasy ally of John for a short period.
10. Gil Birmingham as Thomas Rainwater
Gil Birmingham is somewhat of an antagonist in the first few seasons of Yellowstone. He is the chairman of the Confederated Tribes of Broken Rock and chief of the Broken Rock Indian Reservation. Now the borders of this reservation are shared by the Yellowstone ranch and he believes that the land where this ranch has been developed belongs to the Indian population and tries everything he can to get his claim on the land but is ultimately unsuccessful to do so.
11. Forrie J Smith as Lloyd Pierce
Lloyd Pierce is another minor character in Yellowstone who is a ranch hand at the Yellowstone ranch and is played by Forrie J Smith. He is Rip’s trusted companion and his right-hand man who is half as strict as Rip is towards the other people who work at the ranch. Lloyd is the friendly face for everyone working at Yellowstone and is often a relief character during tense situations.
12. Wendy Moniz as Senator Lynelle Perry
Wendy Moniz appears in Yellowstone as the love interest of John Dutton who is also the former Governor of Montana. However, even though she loves John, most of the time she is seen getting him out of tough legal situations and has often made it very clear that she is not fond of this happening over and over again. However, no matter what, she always gives more importance to her professional duties and as the series progresses moves up the political ranks.
