Following the lead of prominent smart speaker makers, Xiaomi has today also unveiled a smaller AI-powered speaker at its much-awaited Mi Mix 2S launch event in Shanghai. It’s a compact version of the company’s original smart speaker and has been aptly named the Mi AI Speaker Mini.
This Mi AI Speaker Mini is powered by Xiaomi’s own Xiao AI smart assistant. If the Chinese giant is to be believed then it is one of the most advanced smart voice assistants. As you’d expect from a smart speaker, you can use it to get answers to your queries, and keep a track of your daily schedule and meetings.
The AI assistant provides you the ability to check messages, traffic conditions, save reminders and voice memos, control your smart home appliances, manage your schedule and much more.
The Mi AI Speaker Mini is quite compact and can sit in the palm of your hand. But, the rounded corners in every direction and plastic build are not particularly modern or fetching. It looks cheap and has a price tag to match. At 169 CNY it’s roughly around Rs 1,800 or just over $26, so it’s quite reasonably priced.
The highlight of this speaker is possibly the huge collection of 35 million songs and premium audio content, which should make it a great entertainment package for your home, provided you can order one from China. Xiaomi says it has roped in 27 voice content partners for the launch.
It’s more than just a speaker though. Xiaomi emphasized the Mi AI Speaker Mini would make it easier for you to manage smart home devices such as Mi TV, Mi smart lights, vacuum robot, rice cooker, air purifier, and more. Xiao AI will act as the interface between you and your Xiaomi devices. The Mi AI Speaker Minis can also be daisy chained for use around the home.
