After a flood of leaks and rumors over the past few weeks, Xiaomi has today finally taken the wraps off the Mi 6X (which is likely to be released as Mi A2 in India) at the launch event in Beijing. The Mi 6X has been launched with a starting price of 1,599 yuan and will go on sale from April 27.

The Basics

This device is the successor of the Mi 5X or Mi A1, which garnered a ton of praise for its design, as well as performance. The Mi 6X features a modern 5.99-inch Full HD+ display panel, with an 18:9 aspect ratio, which is similar to the Redmi Note 5 Pro that was launched earlier this year.

The Mi 6x’s aesthetic also shares some design elements with the Note 5 Pro. It has the same fingerprint scanner placement, and vertical dual-rear camera placement aligned to the left of the phone. It’s slightly thinner than the Redmi Note 5 Pro at 7.3mm. However, one basic feature left out is the 3.5 mm headphone jack.

The device, as we expected, is powered by the Snapdragon 660 chipset, coupled with 4GB/ 6GB of LP DDRX 4X RAM and 64GB/ 128GB internal storage. You also get the much-hyped Face Unlock feature on the Mi 6X, which runs Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 9 on top.

The Mi 6X will most likely be rebranded as Mi A2 and run Android 8.1 Oreo under the Android One program in India.

Xiaomi has packed a powerful 12MP+20MP dual camera combo on the Mi 6X. While the 20MP camera is using the Sony IMX376 sensor, the 12MP sensor is Sony IMX486 with f/1.75 aperture, large 1.25μm pixels. This means Xiaomi may be right in boasting about the stunning low-light performance of the camera. This is complemented with phase-detection autofocus (PDAF), the hyped portrait images, and 4K video recording – which is absent on the Redmi Note 5 Pro.

You also get a 20MP selfie camera, with the same Sony IMX376 sensor as the rear, and a flash on the front. Xiaomi also talked about the AI capabilities of the front camera, which the company says help greatly improve your selfies. You can check out the camera samples right here.

The Mi 6X packs a 3,010mAh battery and supports 18W Quick Charge 3.0 charging via USB Type-C port. Xiaomi says you can charge the device from 0 to 50% in just under 30 minutes.

Price and Availability

Xiaomi Mi 6X has been priced at 1,599 yuan (approx ₹16,999) for the 4GB+64GB variant, whereas you get two configurations for the 6GB variant. You’ll need to shell out 1,799 yuan (₹18,999) for the 6GB+64GB variant and 1,999 yuan (₹20,999 )for the 6GB +128GB variant.

The Mi 6X will go on sale from 27 April in China and you can choose from 5 different color variants, namely red, gold, rose gold, blue and black. So, are you impressed with the Mi 6X? Let us know in the comments below.
