We all can agree that hero shooter is such an overused genre at this point that everyone can feel the fatigue of it. Whether it is Overwatch or Valorant, abilities alongside guns have been interesting but there is always something more that makes or breaks a game. In this overcrowded category is a sub-genre called “shooter battle arena” where games like Smite and Paragon have existed for a long while. Although these games are special, they were never more than a FPS MOBA. Well, that might end with Valve’s secret new game Deadlock as many including the pros agree this to be the next big thing; a game that will take over in the coming years.
What Makes Deadlock So Attractive?
Deadlock is Valve’s secret game that many can call a Dota 2 or League of Legends in first-person POV. I will not argue with that as that is all the game is about. You farm enemy minions, push one of the four lanes, and destroy towers. However, that’s just the MOBA side of things, what about the hero shooter aspect?
While the MOBA elements retain the complexity, the shooter side of the gameplay will give casuals a space to learn the game and grow. Shooting is responsive and rewarding at the same time. You will never regret spraying down enemies with the results you get.
We will go into greater detail in our full-blown Deadlock hands-on story, so stay tuned for that. For now, it is fair that some players will think some of us are exaggerating how great MOBA games are when they combine with different perspective gameplay. Well, we are not alone.
Even Pros Agree Deadlock Can Be Great
Many professional gamers from various genres of games have come together to try out Valve’s new game and praise how great Deadlock is or can be. The FPS games legend Shroud recently launched the beta for his own game Spectre Divide, which is already a good game. However, even he thinks Deadlock has been fun so far. In a recent Twitch stream, Shroud said, “this game will easily….I mean easily… take over in two years…”
He further adds it will take time as MOBA games have tons of mechanics and being in development, Valve has a lot to do. But one thing is clear the game has huge potential and pros can notice it.
On the other hand, ex-Valorant streamer AverageJonas also shared that he will be starting Deadlock streams and quitting Valorant. Average Jonas has a history of crafting some crazy lineups as a Sova main and his community was based on theory-crafting.
With Valorant making constant changes and being limited to a tactical shooter, he thinks Deadlock will help him continue his theory-crafting journey.
Being an ex-Dota 2 player, like me, it is evident that Jonas’ love for strategy building and nerd-ing will be fulfilled with Deadlock. We have already seen Ex Overwatch pro, xQc destroying opponents in Deadlock in his streams. He also mentions that “he had known about the game for a while but was under NDA.“
With all the pros and creators agreeing that Deadlock is or can be great, Valve can definitely feel optimistic about the game they’ve created. Although it is still early development days for Deadlock, it seems players will have enough time to get into it before the global release.
