After a significantly long time, the Tron franchise is back on the big screen with Ares. While the arrival of this movie is something fans have been waiting for a very long time, the reception is telling us a different story. Tron: Ares (review) is an ambitious project that has been in the works for over a decade, and now that it is finally here, the Box Office collection does not reflect the hype that the project has been surrounded by. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at the Tron: Ares box office collection till date while also analysing the reasons behind the low collection.

Considering the promotions and the hype surrounding this flick, the projection went to much bigger numbers. Considering the upcoming weekend, the projection was to make around $40 million to $45 million domestically over a budget of $180 million. However, domestically, in its run so far (October 13, 2025), Tron Ares has only been able to make $33.5 million.

Talking about its international run, the expectations were good, but at the end of the day, Tron: Ares managed to collect only $27 million internationally. This brings Tron: Ares to a global Box Office collection of $60.5 million, contrary to the expected collection of around $85 million to $90 million.

Why Did Tron Ares Fail to Perform at the Box Office?

One of the biggest reasons for the fall of Tron: Ares was neither flawed performances nor a bad story. If you watch the movie for what it is, a reboot and not a sequel, everything in it works. Now, I won’t say that the movie is perfect in every way, but even if it’s not, the movie works. Just look at the Rotten Tomatoes ratings for the movie. While the critic score stands at 57%, the audience rating stands at a strong 87%.

Ares is being criticised for not being something it wasn’t aiming to be in the first place. Most people who have handed out critical reviews looked at the movie through the lens of it being a sequel to Tron: Legacy, which also became the reason for the downfall of Ares, and its low Box Office collection. So, if you have still not watched this movie, be your own judge and give this one a shot.
