How to Get a Pickaxe in The Forge
As you start The Forge, you will receive a free Stone Pickaxe as a welcome gift. This will allow you to mine the starter pebbles inside the cave without spending any money. So, once you progress through the tutorials, complete some of The Forge quests, and forge the first weapons and armor, you will be directed to buy new pickaxes found at Miner Fred’s shop.

Don’t worry about its map location, since a white arrow will always guide you through the first few steps of buying a pickaxe. At Miner Fred’s shop in Stonewake’s Cross, you will find four pickaxes, including Bronze, Iron, Golden, and Platinum ones.
While the Stonewake’s pickaxe can be found at the center of the Inner Cave region, the Arcane Pickaxe can be found in the Fallen Angel’s Cave. You can complete the Bard’s Guitar quest to find the ‘Unknown key’ that unlocks this area.
Having completed the first region, you can teleport to the Forgotten Kingdom. Once you unlock the portal tool, you can reach there. Here you will find a bunch of pickaxes at Miner Fred’s shop, while the rest of them can be found inside the Volcanic Depths.

The Demonic and Arcane Pickaxe is the strongest and most useful one in the game thanks to its high power, mining speed, and rune slot capacity.
Rune slots allow you to place runes in your pickaxes and enhance their mining speed, or apply special modifiers. Therefore, more rune slots equal more customization and a better pickaxe.
