OnePlus has been releasing a seemingly endless line of teasers about its upcoming TVs, which will launch September 26th in India. One of those teasers had earlier hinted that the TV could be controlled through a mobile app, and the company has now seemingly confirmed that feature through a tweet earlier today.
As can be seen below, OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau, has tweeted a 6-second video that shows how users can seamlessly switch between various apps on the TV with a smartphone. While we can’t say for sure exactly how the feature will work, it looks as though the TV will come with a companion app that will allow users to control it with their smartphone via a wireless connection.
In case you’ve been following the hoopla surrounding the OnePlus TV, you’ll recall that Lau has been talking about hooking up smartphones with televisions for a very long time. In an interview last month, he said that the upcoming device will improve the whole TV-viewing experience by offering “good interactions and user experience, specially connecting with your smartphone”.
Lau this week also revealed that OnePlus TV users will be able to type out text on their smartphones to search for content on the OnePlus TV, which is certainly a welcome addition, given how much of a hassle it is to type on Android TVs using standard remote controls. While OnePlus is yet to reveal more details, renowned tipster Ishan Agarwal (@ishanagarwal24) earlier this week claimed that the feature in question will be called OnePlus Connect.
This is "OnePlus Connect". It's useful, you will like it. #OnePlusTV #OnePlus7TSeries #OnePlus pic.twitter.com/qHXlEKEHwO
