After exploring the new Silo with Juliette Nichols in the first episode of season 2, we have finally returned to our main Silo 18 in the second episode today. This episode perfectly captured the aftermath of Juliette surviving outside and the rebellion brewing underground. More importantly, we get to see a side of Judge Meadows, played by Tanya Moodie, like never before in the latest episode. In the second episode’s ending, she confirmed that she wanted to go out to Bernard. So, why Judge Meadows wants to go out of the Silo in episode 2 ending? Let’s find out in this article.
Judge Meadows Fights Back Against Being Controlled
Judge Meadows seemed like an authoritarian in the events of Silo season 1. But later we learned that she is still on the fence about the whole order of Silo. She was often seen locking herself in her home but fortunately, season 2 is shedding light on the mysteries around the Judge’s past and her actions. In the newest episode, the people of Silo are in chaos now as they begin to wonder about how Jules survives outside and want to explore themselves as well. Thus, Bernard was seen seeking the help of Judge Meadows to stand by his side to restore the serenity inside the Silo.
It is then established that Judge Meadows used to work in the IT department before she became the Judge of the Judicial. It is speculated that Meadows must have been close with Bernard during her time in IT and the head of IT considered Meadows as his shadow back then. As Bernard sought the help of Meadows this time, she wanted something in return for this help.
From Meadows’ actions in this episode, it is glaringly obvious that she is completely tired of being puppeteered as the Judge. She quit drinking and made it clear to Bernard that she didn’t want to be ordered around anymore.
So, Why Does Judge Meadows Want to Go Out?
It seems Judge Meadows was compelled to become a figurehead as the Judge at the cost of her personal freedom. She referred to the wizard from the famous “The Wizard of Oz” story about how she feels similar to him like a fraud. At the end of the story, the wizard flies away in a hot-air balloon. All these years, Meadows has been drinking to cope with being played like a puppet.
She stopped it today to make a clear statement to Bernard about what she wants further in her life. Like that Wizard she mentioned, she wants her freedom to get out of the Silo. Bernard promised he would do whatever she wanted in exchange for her help. Hence, Meadows asked him to secure the good mechanical tapes for the suit and save it until the current crisis inside the Silo is over.

She had enough of the agony of being a figurehead here and wanted out in the end. She has always yearned for her freedom and that is exactly why she uttered the sinful words “I want to go out” to Bernard at the end of episode 2 of Silo season 2.
