Oblivion Remastered Becomes 2025’s Third Best-Selling Game

In Short
  • Oblivion Remastered is already the third-best-selling game of 2025 in the US after spending just one week on the market.
  • The title has enjoyed strong Steam CCU figures and continues to sit among the most popular games on Xbox and PlayStation.
  • The sales report only accounts for retail sales and does not include Game Pass subscriptions.

As many players suspected, Oblivion Remastered has been selling like hotcakes. This beautiful next-gen rendition of the long-loved RPG is flying off the shelves. As it now turns out, the game has already secured a spot on the best-sellers list in the US. The news came courtesy of Matt Piscatella, executive director and industry analyst at Circana.

He took to Bluesky to state that, “After just one week in market (w/e 4.26) Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion: Remastered is already the 3rd best-selling game of 2025 in the US ($ sales), trailing only Monster Hunter: Wilds and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows.”

Considering the buzz around the remaster’s launch, the news should hardly come as a surprise. Oblivion is among the most beloved RPGs ever created, so a modern iteration of the game was always going to attract players in droves. The only obstacles in its path to becoming a smash hit were a poorly optimized remaster or an unreasonable price tag. The title managed to avoid both those pitfalls and was shadowdropped on the unassuming Wednesday of April 22.

It gathered steam on Steam almost immediately, climbing to 120,000 concurrent players just a few hours after launch. It eventually hit a peak player count of 216,784 on PC, and continues to amass an average of 70,000 users every day. On the console side of things, Oblivion Remastered sits near the summit of the most popular games on both the PlayStation and Xbox digital storefronts.

It’s important to note that the numbers shared by Piscatella pertain to retail sales and do not factor in Game Pass players, as clarified by the analyst himself: “A subscription is not a sale.” Judging by this, the remaster’s availability on Game Pass did not have the detrimental impact on its retail sales as many online initially figured. The report does lead one to wonder if the remaster would’ve been an even bigger hit had it been afforded a proper marketing cycle.

Nevertheless, Oblivion Remastered was essentially a brand-new Elder Scrolls game for millions of players who missed out on the 2006 original. Its pristine visuals rival most modern-day releases, and its preservation of the original’s quirks and charms has clearly worked its magic on a new generation of RPG fans.
