Hi Strands fam! I’m back with another round of Strands, and phew, was it tough. At one point, I even thought that solving the Strands today wouldn’t bear any fruit for I couldn’t make any sense of it. It practically drove me nuts. Somehow, I made it through, and have listed the hints and answers for the May 14 NYT Strands down below. So, if you need the help, do take a look!
What is the Theme for Today’s NYT Strands?
As revealed by the New York Times, the theme for today’s Strands is “On board”.
Spangram Hint for Today’s Strands
Spoiler Warning #1 Even though we try our best to be subtle, the hints below might partially spoil the experience. You’ve been warned.
Every Strands game has that one Spangram that you need to decipher and today’s was no exception. The hint for today’s Spangram is – “Fancy word for cured meat“.
Theme Words Hints for Today’s Strands
If you have figured out the Spangram from the above hint, figuring out the theme words will be easy. However, I don’t want to ruin it for you. Instead, here are three theme word hints that may help you:
- Hint #1: Scientifically called Olea europae
- Hint #2: Another word for crazy

Spangram Answer for NYT Strands on May 14
The Spangram for today’s NYT Strands puzzle is CHARCUTERIE, and it runs from left to right on the letters grid.

Anyway, with that being said, let’s go to the next section. However, proceed only if you are ready to check out the theme words.
List of Theme Words for NYT Strands on May 14
If you have scrolled this far, you are probably ready to see the answers. So, let’s take a look at today’s theme words in Strands:
- OLIVE
- FRUIT
- BRIE
- SALAMI
- SPREAD
- CRACKER
- NUTS
At first, hopes were high for I instantly yet accidentally found OLIVE in the top left. After a while, I also found FRUIT in the bottom left. However, when I couldn’t find anything else in the next 10 minutes or so, I knew I was doomed. It was time to use a hint. The hint revealed BRIE in the top right, and I still had no idea what the Strands today was about.
Right under BRIE though, I found SALAMI, albeit accidentally, and I was lost yet again. WHAT IS THIS STRANDS EVEN? Well, as you probably predicted, I used another hint to get NUTS at the bottom.
Right alongside it, I found SPREAD and thanked the Strands Gods for not making this a complete fail. I think I gave up at this point, for I used another hint to get CRACKER. That instantly revealed CHARCUTERIE as the Spangram for the day. In other words, a Charcuterie Board. Sigh.
