Jujutsu Kaisen Owned 2024 Even Though the Final Saga Fell Short

Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since 2018, yet it didn’t have a massive fan following back at the start. However, once the Jujutsu Kaisen anime debuted in 2020, it turned the tables and the series became a worldwide phenomenon. And now, 2024 marked the end of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga.

In line with some popular shonen manga, the final saga of Jujutsu Kaisen faced severe criticism for its rushed ending. Anyway, even with all the condemnation around the series, JJK was the best-selling manga of 2024. Let’s find out how Jujutsu Kaisen supremely reigned over the rest of the manga in 2024.

Spoilers Warning: This post contains spoilers about the final saga of Jujutsu Kaisen manga. So, be sure to complete the manga in order to avoid ruining your intended experience.

I’ve been mulling over the final saga of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga since its conclusion in September this year. Several aspects of the manga went wrong in many ways, and I will try to explain them here as briefly as I can. Shinjuku Showdown is the last story arc of the series, and it started on a high note with the most-awaited clash between Gojo Satoru vs Ryomen Sukuna. The legendary fight was spectacularly executed by Gege and ended with the shocking death of Gojo.

However, it has been downhill ever since Gojo’s passing in the series. Despite the massive setback for the sorcerers, all the crucial sorcerers dived into the battleground to eliminate the king of curses. From this point, what used to be a riveting story became highly predictable and paved the way for the protagonist to take the win back home in the end like a traditional shonen.

In the end, several plot points went unanswered, and all Jujutsu Kaisen characters who were carefully fleshed out at the start like Maki, Yuta, and even Hakari, weren’t properly utilized. Instead, resurrecting dead characters like Nobara, Higuruma, etc. for fan service, and many more complaints kept on coming in the concluding moments of JJK.

Yet Gege Akutami’s JJK manga only continued to soar high in popularity and topped the charts of manga sales as if all these criticisms disappeared into thin air all of a sudden.

As stated earlier, the Jujutsu Kaisen animanga series has grown into an entity that transcended the popularity of its rivals; new modern generation anime such as Dandadan, Chainsaw Man, etc.

Were you even aware of the fact that the JJK series holds a Guinness Record? It beat the likes of all-time series such as One Piece, AOT, and more to become the world’s most-demanded anime right now. The extreme popularity also opened the portal for the fans to hop into the manga and find out what happens to their favorite sorcerers in the final saga. As JJK fans flooded in to read the manga, they directly increased the demand for the leaks of the weekly chapters of the ongoing manga.

A few months ago, there was a report on X that revealed the most popular accounts with the highest traffic on the platform. Much to everyone’s disbelief, the popular JJK leaker Myamura held the 5th place, beating renowned content creators like Mr. Beast and US President Joe Biden (at that time).

This tweet was a testament to how people were battling to learn the latest information about their beloved series. But some even went to the lengths of spoiling the series for everyone. For example, the news of Gojo’s death exploded and countless memes were created, which spoiled even people who hadn’t watched the show.

Despite the series heading in a bad direction, it was not affected in terms of popularity, thanks to the zealous followers of the series. Eventually, Jujutsu Kaisen also became the highest-selling manga of 2024 by defeating One Piece in Oricon manga sales. So, one can question the expeditious ending but when it came to popularity, there was no doubt that Jujutsu Kaisen was the alpha of the manga jungle in 2024.

Though the series let numerous flaws loose, I still enjoyed my time with Gege Akutami’s greatest work. I can’t wait to see some of the iconic fights get animated in the upcoming seasons. That said, let us know your thoughts about the legacy left by Jujutsu Kaisen in 2024 in the comments below.
