How to Repair Weapons and Armor in Oblivion Remastered

In Short
  • Weapon and armor durability decrease with use in Oblivion Remastered.
  • To repair their equipment, players can use a Repair Hammer or visit a blacksmith.
  • The chances of success while using the hammer are dependent on the level of the Armorer skill.

Gear durability is one of the most annoying mechanics in any RPG, and it’s back to haunt players in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. The mechanic enforces equipment management, as your weapons and armor will lose their quality with use. So, if you want your sword to stay sharp and your cuirass to remain resplendent, it’s essential to learn how to care for your gear. With this in mind, here’s how to repair weapons and armor in the Oblivion Remaster.

There are two ways to repair your weapons and armor in Oblivion Remastered:

  • Use a Repair Hammer
  • Pay an NPC to repair your equipment

Both methods are quick and easy, but have cons attached to them. Furthermore, there are other requirements to repair enchanted gear that you must take note of. With that, here is how to repair weapons and armor in Oblivion Remastered:

1. Using Repair Hammer

Repair Hammers can be found in chests all across Cyrodiil. You don’t have to travel to a specific location either, since they’ll be available inside most dungeons. You can even find the item while venturing through the sewers in the game’s tutorial. If you’re unable to find a Repair Hammer out in the wild, you can always purchase it from a blacksmith.

The hammer lets you repair armor and weapons by yourself, which is a decent way to save some coin. With that being said, you’ll need a high enough Armorer skill to start repairing. Otherwise, your hammer will likely break. The easiest way to improve this skill is by repairing basic gear, which increases the chance of success.

To get started, open up your inventory and select the Repair Hammer. This will bring up the repair screen, where you can browse through your equipment before choosing the piece you want to repair. Keep an eye out for the ‘Break Chance‘ counter as it will inform you if the hammer has a high chance of shattering into pieces. Once the repair job is done, the Repair Hammer’s durability will be spent.

2. Paying For Repairs

This method is pretty straightforward, which is why most players go this route. If you’re willing to part with the coin, head to any blacksmith merchant in Cyrodiil, and they’ll repair your gear for a price. The price is based on the gear’s current status and type.

Some early-game options for repairs include Slack ‘N Smash and The Best Defence in Imperial City. The only significant disadvantage of this method is that repairing high-level gear can get quite expensive.

How to Repair Enchanted Items in Oblivion Remastered

Enchanted armor and weapons are special items with magic effects imbued into them. They’re an integral part of your build, which makes managing them all the more important. But to do it yourself using a Repair Hammer, you’ll need to reach level 25 in the Armorer skill and unlock the Apprentice perk.

As this skill level increases, the chances of hammers breaking will also decrease. Once you hit level 100, Repair Hammers will never break, so investing time into the skill is worth it in the long run. Alternatively, you can also go to a blacksmith to get your Enchanted gear fixed, but this will cost a pretty penny.

That is everything to know about repairing armor and weapons in Oblivion Remastered. Which method do you prefer? Let us know in the comments below.
