- Completing the quest will earn you a Vampirism Cure Potion that will end the disease.
Being a creature of the night is cool in theory, but the novelty of Vampirism quickly fades away in Oblivion Remastered. While the added resistances and Attributes are more than helpful, these advantages are completely negated by a vampire’s weakness to the sun. This is why most players seek out the cure for this disease after contracting it, even if they got the infection on purpose. With this in mind, here’s how to cure Vampirism in Oblivion Remastered.
How to Cure Vampirism in the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered
There are multiple ways of curing Vampirism in Oblivion Remastered, but the correct way for your character depends on when you contracted the disease. If you encounter a vampire and take a few hits from it, you’ll receive a message stating that you have contracted Porphyric Hemophilia. This means that the infection is in your body, and you have three in-game days before completely transforming into a vampire.
Curing Vampirism Before Three In-Game Days

If you’ve identified the disease before 72 in-game hours, there’s no reason to worry since it can be cured very easily. Here are three simple methods that will instantly wipe the problem away:
- Use Cure Disease Potion: These potions can be purchased from alchemists or found as loot in the open world.
- Cast Cure Disease Spell: To get the spell, head to the Chapels inside Cheydinhal or Leyawiin and talk to the healer NPCs to buy the spell from them.
- Use Altar of the Nine: These can be found inside any Chapel, but to use them, you cannot have a bounty on your head or have an infamous/evil reputation.
How to Cure Vampirism After Three In-Game Days
Once 72 hours have passed, you’re now a full-blown vampire. This complicates things significantly, and the best way to cure the disease is to complete the aptly named ‘Vampire Cure’ quest. To trigger it, head to the Arcane University located inside Imperial City and talk to Raminus Polas. You can find the NPC inside the Arch-Mage Lobby building.

After speaking with him, fast travel to Castle Skingrad, which is located right next to Kvatch, to meet Count Hassildor. As given away by his name, the NPC is looking for the cure himself, and he points you in the direction of a witch who lives on the tiny farm of Drakelowe near Cheydinhal.
The witch, named Melisande, will ask you to bring her five empty Grand Soul Gems before extending any help for the cure. This part of the quest can be pretty annoying, depending on how far along into the game you are.

There are two ways to collect the gems: the first is to purchase them from merchants. They’ll cost 200-300 each, and can be purchased from the Mystic Emporium in the Imperial City market or the merchants at each Mages Guild Hall in Cyrodiil’s major cities.
The second way requires a lot more finesse since you’ll be stealing them from the aforementioned Mages Guild Halls. Each hall will have at least two gems in display cases that can be collected after lockpicking them.
Once you have five gems, return to the witch, who’ll ask you to run more errands and bring back five key ingredients. Here are all the ingredients and where to find them:
- Five Nightshade: Nightshade grows in forests, and the best place to find it in volume is near the Fat Ramp Camp just south of Skingrad.
- Two Bloodgrass: The quickest way to get Bloodgrass is by heading to The Gilded Carafe, located in the Imperial City market, and buying it from the merchant.
- Six Cloves of Garlic: Get inside the Imperial Legion Office located near the Imperial City Prison. Once inside, move towards the cupboard in the back of the hall. You’ll find garlic cloves sitting on a platter.
- Dust of a powerful Vampire: This ingredient will be marked on your map, so the game will tell you exactly where to go. After getting to the location, you’ll need to kill Hindaril and loot the dust from his body.
- Blood of Argonian: Make sure to use the ‘Argonian Blood’ dialogue option while talking to the witch to get the dagger required for this ingredient. Once you have it, head to the Veyond Cave location, which sits just north of Bravil, and attack one of the Argonian enemies with the dagger to collect the blood.
With all the ingredients in your possession, go back to Melisande and deliver them. She’ll ask you to wait for a day while she brews the potion. Return to her after 24 hours have passed, and she’ll hand you two Vampirism Cure Potions. Chug one down to cure your Vampirism instantly, and take the other to Count Hassildor for a sweet reward.
