  • High on Life 2 will be released on February 13, 2026, on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.
  • The Squanch Games title will also be available on Day One with Game Pass for subscribers.
  • The sequel will feature brand new characters, weapons, and exciting, never-before-seen gameplay mechanics in the franchise.

High on Life, a satirical first-person shooter from Squanch Games, debuted in 2022 and quickly gained popularity, specifically among Rick and Morty fans, all thanks to Justin Roiland, who voiced a talking gun Kenny, who was one of the protagonists of the game.

With its irreverent humor, talking alien firearms, and bright sci-fi universe, the game quickly became a smash sensation, topping Steam sales rankings and dominating Xbox Game Pass during its launch week. Despite mixed critical reception for its coarse humor and technical flaws, the game’s fan base praised its bold style, comparing it to “Blade Runner meets The Muppets.”

Similarly, its spiritual sequel High on Life 2 aims to ramp up the turmoil with new worlds, weapons, and a fresh interplanetary conspiracy with you as a rogue Bounty Hunter riding a Skateboard. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming title after its Gamescom 2025 demo.

High On Life 2 Release Date

High on Life 2 is slated to be released on February 13, 2026, delivering its characteristic wild comedy to a larger audience. The sequel will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Xbox PC, with full Xbox Game Pass Ultimate support from day one.

This assures that fans may enter into the interstellar adventure at no additional cost. Expect new talking weaponry, a skateboard mechanic, and a larger voice cast, resulting in even more wacky sci-fi shenanigans across several platforms.

Everything You Need to Know About High On Life 2

High on Life 2 expands on its predecessor’s irreverent comedy and chaotic gameplay, as shown in a 42-minute demo unveiled at Gamescom 2025. The main plot revolves around the player, a bounty hunter entrusted with murdering Senator Muppy Doo as part of a cosmic conspiracy that threatens humanity.

A dark character from the protagonist’s past places a bounty on their sister, propelling the story through vibrant other worlds, including conventions such as ParkingCon and MurderCon, to dismantle a sinister pharma cartel.

The gameplay keeps elements of action-adventure and Metroidvania, with an emphasis on fast-paced shooting, platforming, and exploration. Players use talking alien weapons called Gatlians, such as Sweezy (a laser pistol spoken by Betsy Sodaro), Gus (a shotgun voiced by J.B. Smoove), and newcomer Sheath (a battle rifle voiced by Ralph Ineson), each having their own primary, alternate, and “trick hole” skills.

A prominent innovation is the skateboard, which replaces the sprint function and allows for agile traversal through areas such as ParkingCon’s crashed-car chaos. Boss fights, such as those against Brutus, an ogre-like monster, and Muppy Doo, use dynamic gameplay, with the latter culminating in a meta menu-screen combat in which Muppy shrinks into the player’s suit mainframe, forcing players to “click” through menus to destroy him.

This fourth-wall-breaking event epitomizes the game’s meta character, which pokes fun at game design conventions. The demo’s meta also features peek through in a weird 8-bit-style minigame called “Bible Adventures,” which is both nostalgic and delightfully out of place, adding to the game’s self-aware humor.

While the humor can feel overloaded, mirroring criticisms of the first game, the demo’s slick shooting, diverse monster encounters, and innovative level design promise a wild ride when High on Life 2 is released on Friday the 13th in 2026.
