Adel, Baron of Night is the second Night Lord in Elden Ring Nightreign. Although this boss is fairly simple with no hard gimmicks, the extreme aggressive nature of the fight makes it a big challenge to surpass. Adel is among the top four hardest Night Lords in the game, so you are not the only struggling against it. Thankfully, here I have provided a complete guide on how to defeat Adel, Baron of Night in the Gaping Jaw expedition. Everything mentioned here comes from my own experience of defeating Adel countless times already, so hopefully it helps you out as well.
Adel Baron of Night Weaknesses and Move Set
- Weaknesses: Poison, Frostbite, Sleep
- Lunging Attack: Adel has a tendency of lunging at players, even throwing itself like a body slamming attack.

- Grab Bite: Adel opens its mouth wide and attempts to eat one of the players. This attack can insta-kill the grabbed player due to the additional Bleed damage.

- AoE Lightning Explosion: After Adel’s health reaches below 50%, it starts doing the AoE Lightning Explosion attack. It charges up the power of lightning within a large area around it. Players that remain in this area when the charging completes, will take heavy damage.

- Jumping attack: Adel jumps into the air and quickly closes on one of the players, dealing a ton of damage. This attack generally happens right after performing the AoE Lightning Explosion.
- Lightning Strikes: After Adel performs the Lightning Explosion attack in its second phase, Adel’s body becomes surrounded with Lightning. From this point on, he causes random lightning strikes around him.
- Ground Eruption: In the second phase, many of Adel’s attacks cause the ground to erupt as well.
Best Nightfarers for Defeating Adel Baron of Night
- Iron Eye/Wylder
- Duchess
- Executor
- Raider/Guardian (at least one tank)
The Gaping Jaw boss is very aggressive, constantly jumping from one player to the other. This makes it very important to have at least one Tank in the fight, either a Raider or a Guardian. Guardian is more suited for this fight as he can also revive fairly quickly.
When it comes to damage, both Duchess and Executor are excellent choices because of their Arcane scaling. Adel is weak to Poison, Freeze and Sleep, so characters that scale well with arcane can easily take advantage of them.

Finally, Iron Eye and Wylder are always solid options for most boss fights. Iron Eye is the best Nightfarer in the game and Wylder is extremely versatile in every scenario.
How to Prepare for Gaping Jaw in Elden Ring Nightreign
- Get a Poison, Frost or Sleep weapon: The first thing you need to do is find a weapon that either has a Poison, Frost or Sleep affinity, or a weapon that has a weapon art with such affinities or ailments. Target camps with these affinities during day 1 and 2 to increase your chances.
- Find good Weapon Arts: Weapon Arts like Hoarfost Stomp or Chilling Mist can make this fight much easier. Also, if you fail to find a Poison weapong, getting the Poison Mist weapon art is enough to apply the poison on the enemy.
- Use relics to keep you alive: Instead of boosting your damage, use relics that can keep you alive against Adel. Because the boss is extremely aggressive, it is best to get lightning or physical damage negation. Also, getting relics that transfer buffs or healing from flasks to allies can be a really good pick for this boss. Guardians should use the relic that draws enemy aggro on them when blocking.
- Reach Level 12: The bare minimum level to fight this boss is 12 and even then you might struggle. Follow our Elden Ring Nightreign level up guide for some help.
- Grab Healing and Damage Negation Items: Warming Stones are vital to have in this fight. You will find yourself out of Healing Flasks pretty soon due to the aggressive nature of the boss. Other than that, chucking up a couple of damage negating items cannot hurt as well.
- Upgrade your Weapon: Don’t forget to upgrade your weapon if you fail to find a good Epic or Legendary weapon in the run.
- Prioritize Churches: This boss will make you run out of Healing flasks very quickly. So, try to get all the healing flask charges possible during your run.

How to Beat Adel, Baron of Night in Elden Ring Nightreign
Adel, Baron of Night is a fairly simple boss. But its extremely aggressive nature can make the fight incredibly hard. Here are some tips on how to defeat Adel, Baron of Night in Nightreign:
- Try to run bleed and freeze combo on everyone in the party. This will let you shred through big HP bar of the boss fairly quickly.
- Use the Wylder, Iron Eye, Guardian, or Raider’s ultimate to stun Adel when it eats one of your allies. You can also use Ultimate to stun Adel when it does the AoE Lightning Explosion attack.
- When Adel, Baron of Night actually manages to eat of your allies and you don’t have a way to stun it, simply go in and deal damage. While eating, Adel is basically a sitting duck with no defenses.
- Spamming Frost weapon arts is another good way to take down Adel. If you have Hoarfost Stomp, use it on Adel to deal a ton of damage.
- Save your Healing Flasks during the fight. Try using Warming Stones instead if you are not heavily damaged.

How to Defeat Everdark Sovereign Gaping Jaw in Elden Ring Nightreign
The Everdark Sovereign version of Gaping Jaw adds a third phase to Adel’s move set. On top of that, Adel will enter the normal second phase from the very start of the battle. So, you will have the lightning blasts from the very beginning. You can use the above tips to pass this part of the boss.
He enters his third phase once Everdark Sovereign Gaping Jaw reaches half health. When this happens, you need to do the following things to defeat him comfortably:
- When Adel enters the third phase, he will stir up a lightning whirlwind and jump inside it. At this moment, a spiritspring will also appear outside the whirlwind. Use the Spiritspring to jump inside the whirlwind. Otherwise, you will get constant lightning damage until the whirlwind ends.

- Adel will start with a lunging attack inside the Whirlwind, followed by ground explosions. Dodge this attack by rolling and then jumping. Staying near Adel’s left body is the best way to avoid most of his attacks during this phase.
- Now, continue dealing damage to Adel while dodging his attacks. Don’t force attacks on Adel; instead, look for openings between his strikes. His attacks in the third phase deal a ton of damage, so it is better to avoid them as much as possible.
- Use your Ultimate abilities to stun Adel inside the Whirlwind and keep him from dealing too much damage to you.
Now, let’s take a look at the best ways to prepare for Everdark Sovereign Gaping Jaw in Nightreign:
- Get a Scarlet Rot and Poison weapon if possible. Apply both Scarlet Rot and Poison on Adel to deal a ton of overtime damage.
- Freeze and Bleed still works on Everdark Sovereign Adel, so use weapons with these ailments once you have applied Scarlet Rot and Poison.
- Ideally, use melee characters that can tank hits. Wylder, Raider, Guardian, and Executor are all great for this boss. Ironeye and Duchess also have their uses as they can deal a lot of damage. However, it is best to avoid using Revenant and Recluse unless you are extremely good with them.
