- Buried treasure can be found underneath any stretch of sand in Dune Awakening. However, this doesn't mean it'll spawn whenever you search for it.
- To find buried treasure, you'll need to research and craft the Handheld Resource Scanner tool and use it to scan vast desert areas. Eventually, a cache symbol will pop up before your character, pointing out the treasure's location.
- You'll need to use the Static Compactor tool to dig out buried treasure.
The treacherous sands of Arrakis in Dune Awakening might seem daunting at first, but as you unlock new tools, you’ll be able to harvest all the resources hidden in the vast desert. This includes buried treasure caches that contain Solaris, crafting material, and even new gear depending on your luck. While the game introduces you to this mechanic via a side quest aptly named ‘Buried Treasure,’ it doesn’t do the best job at explaining exactly how to unearth these caches. So, if you’re stuck on this quest, here’s how you can find buried treasure in Dune Awakening.
How to Locate Buried Treasure in Dune Awakening
Before you can start sifting the sands for buried treasure in Dune Awakening, you’ll need to obtain two Fremen devices: the Handheld Resource Scanner and the Static Compactor. You’ll unlock both items after completing the Second Trial of Aql.
If you lack the resources to craft these devices, we recommend visiting moisture-sealed caves to gather the required Fremen materials.

With both tools in your possession, head out in the open sands and use the Handheld Resource Scanner while pointing at the area around you. Eventually, a cache logo (diamond icon) pops up, indicating something hidden beneath the sand. While buried treasure can be found anywhere, you can use the Sandworm meter to indicate that you’re looking in the right place.
After noticing the logo, whip out your Static Compactor and fire it on the ground. The tool will dig out the buried treasure, allowing you to loot its contents. Remember that not all your prospecting trips will succeed, and you might end up with a few bits of ore to show for your hard work.
On top of this, the compactor’s thumping will almost certainly draw the attention of a Sandworm. So, keep your eyes peeled on the meter unless you want to be the creature’s lunch. Already got eaten? Read here to know what happens when you die in Dune Awakening.
How to Get Sandbike Scanner in Dune Awakening
If you want to become a serious treasure hunter, investing in a Sandbike Scanner is a must. The vehicle add-on doesn’t just speed up the process of discovering buried treasure but also gives you a quick getaway method in case a Sandworm decides to harsh your mellow. You can unlock its schematics from the Research menu pretty early into the game, and its recipe requires Iron Ingots and Advanced Servoks.

You can get the former by gathering iron ore, which is found throughout the Hagga Basin South region, and then processing it in an Ore Refinery. The latter can be found inside the Imperial Testing Station locations scattered across Arrakis, and you can also purchase the item from vendors for 750 Solari.
Once you have the scanner, you can freely roam the desert on your Sandbike in search of treasure, without dismounting and using its handheld variant. However, if you’re playing with a friend and have an Ornithopter, the Handheld Resource Scanner can become the ideal tool for treasure hunting. All you need to do is mount the Ornithopter with the scanner in hand, and let your friend pilot the vessel to hover over vast swathes of sand. This way, you’re covering ground quicker than a Sandbike and discovering hidden caches at a faster rate.
