Doom The Dark Ages comes with multiple new weapons when compared to the other games in the franchise, and all of them are unique and extremely strong. But like every other game, some stars shine brighter than others. The Dark Ages is no exception, with some of the guns in the game being an absolute menace. Want to know what they are? Well, keep on reading as we rank down the best Doom The Dark Ages weapons so you know which armament you should go for.
10. Chainshot

Stating the list of best Doom The Dark Ages weapons is none other than the Chainshot. This weapon hits hard, literally shooting a flail at enemies and obliterating armor. While the weapon already has extremely good damage and range, it can be charged up to become even deadlier.
However, Chainshot is hard to use against quick enemies, as they can easily dodge its bullets. Also, this gun is best used with its max upgrade, and before that, there are many better weapons in the game.
9. Combat Shotgun
The Combat Shotgun is the first gun the Slayer gets in Doom The Dark Ages, and it remains consistently strong throughout the game. This gun deals really high damage at close range, almost shredding big enemies with this devastating strength.
The best part about the Combat Shotgun is the early burn mod, which applies burn to demons when shot at. Burned demons also drop armor shards, making survival much easier.
8. Rocket Launcher
The Rocket Launcher is one of the late-game weapons in Doom The Dark Ages, but that is no reason to leave it out of this list. This weapon does massive amounts of AoE damage at range, making it perfect for taking down leaders or other elite demons from a distance. However, the Rocket Launcher can act as a double-edged sword at close range, dealing equal damage to yourself and the enemy.
Thankfully, the Vampirism mod makes it a bit more manageable, letting the player recover health instead of dealing self-damage after using the Rocket Launcher right after a successful parry at close range.
7. Shredder
Shredder is the standard ranged weapon that becomes available around the start of the game. This weapon has a big magazine and a quick fire rate. It is the perfect early game weapon for close and ranged fighting in Doom The Dark Ages. Other than that, the upgrades for this weapon perfectly combine with Shield Saw, increasing its value in combat. The upgrades for this weapon let players deal pincushion or ricochet damage after hitting elite enemies with a Shield throw.
Once the demon is stunned, shooting at the enemy also hits other demons nearby for the ricochet mod, while the pincushion mod makes the bullets lodge in the enemies and then shoot out towards others when hit with the Shield Throw. With such a deadly combination of mods, you can see why this is in our list of the best guns in Doom The Dark Ages.
6. Flail
Flail is the second melee weapon unlocked in the game, and it is extremely useful throughout Doom: The Dark Ages. This weapon is easily one of the best in the game due to its excellent armor shredding.
Many enemies in the game’s later chapters equip heavy armor, so hitting them with Flail over other weapons easily strips them of the protection. The Flail can also be upgraded to apply burn on enemies and deal more armor shred.
5. Shield Saw
Shield Saw is undoubtedly the most useful weapon in Doom The Dark Ages, both in and outside of combat. This weapon can be thrown to break shields or mow down fodder enemies, used to charge at distant enemies, dealing AoE damage, or used to block and parry attacks.
The ability to parry with the Shield Saw boosted this weapon up the list, as parrying is extremely strong in the game. Correctly performing a parry can stun nearby enemies and also unleash a Shield Saw rune spell if a projectile is parried.
4. Cycler
Cycler is one of my favorite guns in Doom The Dark Ages. It features a rapid fire rate and shoots plasma bolts that blast plasma shields. This weapon is perfect for mowing down big targets, but it really gets fun after upgrading the weapon.
An upgraded Cycler can apply shock to enemies and trigger arc lightning from defeated enemies, dealing chain lightning damage. This gun makes it extremely easy to take down both strong, heavy, and multiple demons simultaneously.
3. Dreadmace
Dreadmace is the strongest melee weapon in Doom The Dark Ages, and it can almost two-shot most strong demons. However, this weapon only has one melee charge, making it impossible for players to slam it, unless there are melee recharges nearby.
The best part about this weapon is not its devastating damage but its ability to refill all the gun’s ammo in use with a single hit. Although this melee weapon may arrive late in Doom: The Dark Ages, it is by far one of the strongest weapons in the game.
2. Ravager
Ravager is my go-to gun in Doom The Dark Ages for almost all scenarios. It does a ton of single-target focused damage and has a very high fire rate. The weapon excels after being upgraded, which gives it the vampirism perk.
This mod makes the enemies hit by this weapon drop health shards, giving a lot of healing to the slayer. Furthermore, the max upgrade for the gun also makes enemies drop ammo on hit, allowing you to simply press the fire button and destroy enemies in your path with any mercy.
1. Ballistic Force Crossbow
Ballistic Force Crossbow is hands-down the strongest weapon in Doom The Dark Ages, capable of killing entire hordes of enemies with a single shot. This isn’t a traditional upgradable gun in the game, but more of a power weapon that becomes available in the later chapters. The gun only has three arrows, and each one is able to take down even the strongest enemies with one shot.
However, the ammo for this weapon is found few and far between, and it doesn’t recharge by melee attacks. You cannot use the shield while using this weapon, which is another big flaw. However, in terms of damage output, no other weapon comes anywhere close to it, which is why Ballistic Force Crossbow is considered the best weapon in the game.
And these are the best weapons in Doom The Dark Ages you should use right now. Do you have a recommendation for a gun we missed? Drop it in the comments below!
