Tesla Might Start Shipping an All-Wheel Drive Tesla Model 3 in July

Tesla is currently working its way through pushing out enough Model 3 vehicles to meet its goal of making 5,000 Model 3s a week. But the plans are already being made for upgraded models

With a production volume of 2,000 cars per week, Tesla is already doing better than it did in the last few years with the Model S, and the Model X, but Elon Musk wants the production rate to reach 5,000 cars a week before adding any complexities to the production line.

Musk revealed this on Twitter while replying to a customer about the state of Tesla’s AWD Model 3. In his tweet, Musk hinted at a July date for shipping the all-wheel drive model.

It’s no secret that Tesla has always suffered from delays and postponed shipping dates, but this latest information must be very frustrating for customers who pre-ordered the Model 3.

Tesla is currently in the process of ramping up production of its rear wheel drive, single motor, all-electric variant of the Tesla Model 3. It’s a sorry state of affairs for the company, considering Musk wanted to fulfil the 5,000 cars per week goal by December 2017. So ut is already well beyond the deadline Musk set for himself.

Whether or not the AWD Tesla Model 3 will go into production in July is anyone’s guess, as Tesla is not exactly known to meet deadlines. And while customers are mostly used to it by now, it must still be a highly frustrating. I wouldn’t know, because Tesla isn’t available here in India, and apparently the government doesn’t want to give special sanctions to a company that might change the entire roadmap of the Indian car industry.
