Every Fortnite player jumps up with excitement whenever there is a new countdown timer that shows up in the lobby, signaling that something big is about to go down. While this was limited to live events in the past, Epic has since begun featuring countdown timers for Fortnite power hours, too, keeping players up to date.

What is the Countdown on Fortnite For?

The countdown timer in the lobby is for the release of Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2, which is set to come out on March 19, 2026, at 2 AM ET. While Epic usually doesn’t list countdown timers for new season launches, given how big Chapter 7 Season 2 is shaping up to be, it looks like the developers don’t want any players to miss out on the launch.

It was previously speculated that there would be a Rocket Launch live event taking place at the end of Chapter 7 Season 1, which would entail its own unique countdown timer. However, it looks like the recent Fortnite Dark Voyager Story Moment was the last live event for the current season, and Epic is now preparing everyone for the rivalry-themed Showdown season in Chapter 7 Season 2.

The upcoming season will focus on the Ice King and the Foundation going head-to-head with their own factions, with the Dark Voyager seemingly pulling the strings from behind the curtain to execute his plan of reassembling the Zero Point.
