Where Does The Last Of Us Season 2 Take Place? All Filming Locations Discussed

The Last of Us Season 2 is now streaming on HBO Max, and fans are thrilled to see Ellie and Joel back on their screens. The new season introduces several new characters and even more dangerous infected. However, one thing remains absolutely the same in the second season – its locations. Just like in the first season, the locations featured in Season 2 are absolutely stunning. And if you are wondering where TLOU Season 2 was filmed, here are all the confirmed locations.

Real-Life Filming Locations of The Last of Us Season 2

The Last of Us Part 2 video game was mainly set in Seattle and Jackson, but Season 2 wasn’t shot in the U.S. Instead, the entire season was shot in Canada.

The creators have managed to successfully replicate the visual appeal of Seattle and Jackson to keep in line with the source material. In fact, in the first season of The Last of Us, Alberta, Canada, was used as the setting of Jackson, Wyoming. So, season 2 of the series returned to Alberta to maintain consistency with the locations of Season 1.

At the same time, TLOU Season 2 also moved toward British Columbia, where the showrunners replicated the landscape of Seattle. The season was filmed across different locations and backdrops, including several mountain tops and lush green forests in British Columbia. That being said, here’s a breakdown of each location in the second season:

Vancouver

A major portion of The Last of Us Season 2 was filmed in Vancouver, specifically the Downtown area. However, in the series, Vancouver serves as Seattle, Washington. The urban infrastructure and nature made it easier for the filmmakers to replicate Seattle. In fact, it was in Vancouver where the infected scene with Ellie and Dina was filmed.

Nanaimo

Nanaimo is also in British Columbia, and a variety of scenes were filmed in this location. Interestingly, this particular location was used to replicate Capitol Hill. It’s the same location where Ellie will go through several human enemies and their guard dogs.

Season 1 of The Last of Us was filmed mainly around Alberta, Canada. This location represented Jackson, Wyoming, where the story of the first game is set. While Season 2 explores different filming locations to match the locations featured in TLOU Part 2, it also returns to the filming locations of Part 1.

Alberta, Canada

Locations like Calgary, Canmore, and Edmonton will be featured in the upcoming season of TLOU. Scenes like Abby finding her dead father or Ellie confronting Joel outside of the Fireflies HQ are shot in Alberta, but the central portion of Season 2’s events are filmed in British Columbia.

So, don’t expect to spend a long time in these filming locations with Season 2. Alberta was a crucial location for the story in the first part, but The Last of US Season 2 will only return to this location through flashbacks.
