Marvel Studios’ Agatha All Along is the next much-awaited TV series that’ll soon debut on Disney Plus. We were introduced to Agatha in WandaVision, and while we thought that we were done watching that character on the screen, there’s still so much left to her story. However, because of the complexity of Marvel releases, it’s not unusual if some fans haven’t watched all the projects they should have watched before enjoying Agatha’s story. Basically, to enjoy Agatha’s journey, you must know Scarlet Witch’s journey in the MCU. With that in mind, we’ve curated this list of shows and movies that you should watch before Agatha All Along.
1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Captain America: The Winter Soldier was mostly about Bucky’s return as a pawn of Hydra. The action-packed movie was about Steve Rogers confronting his past and fighting his long-lost friend. It’s a great movie that features several great and legendary action moments in all of the MCU.
However, you shouldn’t be watching this movie because of Steve or Bucky; instead, you must watch it because it’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier that introduces Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlet Witch.
2. Avengers: Age Of Ultron
After being introduced in The Winter Soldier, the Scarlet Witch, or Wanda, returns in the Age of Ultron movie. At first, she and Quicksilver, her brother, sides with Ultron. But ultimately, they both side with the Avengers. This movie is important to watch before Agatha All Along because it shows a glimpse of the overwhelming powers of the Scarlet Witch.
Agatha’s story is incomplete without Wanda and Vision, and well, our beloved Witch meets the love of her life, Vision, in Age of Ultron. After losing one anchor of her life, Quicksilver, Wanda finds another to keep her on the right path.
3. Captain America: The Civil War
Not all love stories have a smooth start, and in that regard, Wanda and Vision were extremely unlucky. In the Civil War, Tony Stark and Steve Rogers go on a different path, which ultimately divides the Avengers into two factions. While Wanda sides with Captain America, Vision’s ideologies find balance by siding with Iron Man.
So, despite having that spark of love within themselves, Wanda and Vision were forced to fight each other. However, this movie is important because it’s in this one when both Wanda and Vision sort of realize the feelings they have for each other.
4. Doctor Strange
Doctor Strange is nowhere about Wanda or Agatha, but well, it is all about magic. Yeah! The same magic that is a big part of Wanda and Agatha’s story. Doctor Strange introduces the magic to the MCU in its true sense. It’s a great story and, to be honest, a treat for the senses. Doctor Strange is one of those movies that we think about when talking about the Golden era of the MCU.
Regardless, some would say that you can ignore Doctor Strange, and it isn’t necessary to enjoy Agatha All Along. However, Doctor Strange 2 is a must-watch in that regard, and to enjoy a sequel, you must watch the first movie.
5. Avengers: Infinity War
Avengers: Infinity War is heartbreaking for so many reasons, but it’s sad, especially for Wanda fans. The movie snatches Vision from Wanda as she’s forced to kill Vision through Chaos Magic to prevent the Mind Stone from going into Thanos’ hands. If that wasn’t painful enough, Thanos rewinds the time for a few seconds and kills Vision in front of Wanda.
So, Wanda basically experiences Vision’s death two times. While this one doesn’t exactly send Wanda to a darker path, it certainly lays down the foundation.
6. Avengers: Endgame
Avengers: Endgame didn’t give much spotlight to Wanda, but it’s an important one to watch nonetheless. Endgame puts an end to Wanda’s conflict with Thanos, and while she avenges her lover, she doesn’t get him back.
What’s even more painful for Wanda is that she sees countless people reuniting with their loved ones, but Vision stays dead for good. In every scene when Wanda confronts Thanos, you can sense the anger inside of her. In fact, Thanos himself gets a taste of Wanda’s powers when she single-handedly dominates the Titan with her magic.
7. WandaVision
After six movies, we are finally here to get introduced to Agatha. WandaVision is about Wanda trapping herself and several other people under her spell. She sort of traps herself in an alternate reality where Vision is alive, and they have two children. However, Wanda’s powers attract Agatha, who now seeks a way to steal Scarlet Witch’s powers.
Well, that doesn’t happen; in fact, Agatha’s actions make Wanda break her spell and accept the reality that Vision is dead. Also, let’s not forget that the Darkhold book is a big part of Agatha and Wanda’s story, and the book was introduced in WandaVision. The books were in Agatha’s possession during the events of the TV show – she was using that book to cast spells and manipulate Wanda without being noticed and revealing her true identity. However, in the final act, Wanda takes the book from Agatha and traps her, the ancient witch, under a spell.
Apparently, Agatha will still be under Wanda’s spell in Agatha All Along, and it will take the efforts of a teenager to break her out of that spell. Also, this TV show shows Wanda accepting that she’s the Scarlet Witch, the prophesied Witch who will save or destroy the world.
8. Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness
If Wanda is actually dead, Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness is the final nail in the coffin (no pun intended) for her story. Wanda goes full-on dark in Multiverse of Madness for two reasons – the pain of losing her children, who were never real, to begin with, and, of course, the Darkhold.
Wanda is ready to tap into dark magic to bring her children back, but Doctor Strange wants to stop her. After some horrifying moments, we see Wanda meeting her fate as she sacrifices herself to destroy Darkhold. While all this is happening, Agatha is still under Wanda’s spell. In the trailer for Agatha All Along, we see Agatha realizing that Wanda is dead after getting out of her spell. So, you could say that the next chapter in Agatha’s story will begin after Wanda’s death in Multiverse of Madness.
These are all the movies that you should watch before Agatha All Along. Of course, you can skip any if you’d like because you’ll still enjoy the show. However, these must be watched (in the above-mentioned order) to understand Agatha’s story in its entirety.
