- Superman Legacy recast Superman and inducted David Coresnwet in the role instead of Henry Cavill.
- Another major cast revelation came in the form of Nicholas Hoult being cast as Lex Luthor.
- James Gunn's Superman Legacy is hitting the theaters on 11 May 2025.
We all know that the DC cinematic universe, as of now, is in a literal do-or-die situation and it seems that everyone is quite aware of that. With James Gunn taking the wheel of the DC universe, it seems he is prepping it for an epic last stand with the upcoming Superman Legacy set to release on 11 May 2025. This movie is going to canon the new revamped DCU and will decide the future of DC movies. James Gunn really did not hold back when it came to casting characters for this movie and gave us some mindblowing revelations. So put on your supercapes and learn all about the cast of Superman Legacy.
1. David Corenswet (Clark Kent/ Superman)
The biggest decision James Gunn made for DCU was the recast of Henry Cavill’s Superman and bringing in David Corenswet for the cast of Superman Legacy, giving him the mantle of one of the most powerful DC heroes.
Fans of Henry Cavil did not take this change very well and if you ask me, that’s quite understandable (I was one of them). However, the striking resemblance Corenswet has with Henry Cavill made fans question James Gunn’s decision.
To these questions, Gunn had a pretty reasonable answer. He said they needed a younger-looking Superman for the DCEU and casting Henry again would make two different cinematic universes collide. So, tell me in the comments what you guys think about his casting, and let’s wait till 2025 to find out if this decision by Gunn works or not.
2. Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane)
Not only Superman but his romantic interest has also been recast. In Superman Legacy, Rachel Brosnahan will be portraying Lois Lane.
As of now, we do not know how much of her character we are going to see in the movie, but as far as I think Corenswet and Brosnahan will complement each other in their respective roles and will be successful in displaying the legendary chemistry between the couple.
3. Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner/ Green Lantern)
Green Lantern has been out of the picture in DC for some time now. The last time we got to see this superhero was the year 2011, played by Ryan Reynolds. The movie wasn’t received very well because it had a huge set of issues, according to fans.
However, this time, Gunn is bringing back Green Lantern with the newest addition to the cast of Superman Legacy. He has cast Nathan Fillion as the “Guy Gardner” version of Green Lantern. For those of you who don’t know who Guy Gardner is, he was the first human Green Lantern who was not chosen by the power ring but found it after it was discarded by the Guardians. He put on the ring and became the first Green Lantern.
As of now, we don’t know how much, or for how long we are going to see Guy Gardner in the movie but as soon as we receive any information regarding this, we will update you ASAP!
4. Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl)
Superman Legacy will bring us the live-action version of Hawkgirl for the first time. For this never-done-before role, Isabela Merced has been cast by James Gunn. Now we don’t know which version of Hawkgirl she will be playing.
To date, three women in the DC universe have wielded the mantle of Hawkgirl, namely Shiera Hall, Shayera Hol, and Kendra Saunders.
5. Anthony Carrigan (Rex Mason/ Metamorpho)
One of the most unexpected characters to join the cast of Superman Legacy was Metamorpho. I, for one, did not expect him to be presented in live-action anytime soon, but well, here we are. Anthony Carrigan has been cast as Metamorpho or Rex Mason for the brand-new DCU.
Metamorpho is a superhero who made his first appearance in January 1965 in the comic run of The Brave and the Bold #57. If we talk about his superpowers, Metamorpho has the ability to transform his body into a wide variety of elemental compounds and shape it in any form he desires. Initially, he was only able to work with elements found in the human body but in his later appearances, this limitation of his was lifted.
6. Edi Gathegi (Michael Holt/ Mr. Terrific)
Like most DC characters, Mr. Terrific is also just a human who has peak physical capabilities and is listed as one of the most intelligent men in the world. In the brand new DCU, Edi Gathegi has been made a part of the cast of Superman Legacy as Mr. Terrific.
Mr. Terrific made his comic debut in the year 1997 with Spectre (vol. 3) #54 and does not possess any superpowers. He is assisted by his exceptional investigative skills, peak physical capabilities, and being a black belt in six different disciplines of martial arts.
7. Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen)
Jimmy Olson is one of the few people in the Justice League who know about the identity of Superman. He is Clark’s best friend (after Batman, of course). Speaking of Batman, I would like to mention that Batman for Gunn’s DCU has not yet been cast and I’d say they better take their time with it to give someone a legacy carried on for so long by a huge list of talented Batman actors.
However, Jimmy has often helped Superman by being his guy in the chair. When Superman is not with the Justice League or working at Daily Planet, Jimmy and Clark often enjoy eating burgers at Superman’s favorite fast food joint, Big Belly Burgers. Superman made Jimmy a timepiece that acts as a beacon if Jimmy is ever in need of Superman’s help.
8. Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor)
One of the biggest revelations for the cast of Superman Legacy is the casting of Nicholas Hoult in the role of Lex Luthor, the arch nemesis of Superman. This role is pretty much a huge responsibility to play considering the legacy left behind by Gene Hackman, Kevin Spacey, and Jesse Eisenberg.
However, I personally did not find the performance of Jesse Eisenberg to be that comic-accurate. If you look at it from the perspective of acting, he did a good job, but if you look at it from the POV of Lex Luthor, his version lacked that charm. What do you think? Let me know in the comments section.
9. Wendell Pierce (Perry White)
James Gunn has found his Perry White for the DCU. Perry White is the editor-in-chief of Daily Bugle where Clark Kent works as a reporter. This character has been a titular part of DC comics for decades and has been played by several actors throughout time. The first actor to play Perry White was Pierre Watkin back in 1948 and the most recent one was Laurence Fishburne appearing in Man of Steel (2013) and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and now, in the rebooted DCU, Wendell Pierce is going to take over this role.
10. María Gabriela De Faría (Angie Spica/ The Engineer)
Another first-time live-action appearance is being made by The Engineer. This is a mantle wielded by two characters, and the second one is Angie Spica who will be played by María Gabriela De Faría. In this movie, she might most probably play the role of an antagonist.
If you don’t know who this is, Angie Spica is a brilliant scientist who injected herself with nanites and it gave her the ability to control all things tech.
The Superman Legacy cast looks pretty good as it is, and it will only get better with every new cast member they announce. This list contains all the characters that have been announced to date and we will keep you updated with any new announcements that come up. Till then, stay tuned!
